Ryan Reynolds joins Hugh Jackman in X Men sequel

February 20, 2008 12:00am

RYAN Reynolds will star in the upcoming blockbuster X-Men Origins: Wolverine, playing Deadpool in the highly-anticipated movie alongside Hugh Jackman.

A source said: "Fans were excited by rumours the film would feature Deadpool because he's a legendary villain for Marvel comics readers. So they'll be delighted to know Ryan's going to play him.

"Deadpool is a mentally unstable mercenary, with special healing powers just like Wolverine's. He is full of funny one-liners and wisecracks. It's just the sort of thing Ryan is great at."

31-year-old Reynolds - who will don Deadpool's trademark tight red costume for the role - recently admitted he is partial to wearing a "red onesie".

Speaking about the possibility of playing superhero The Flash in another project, he said: "I've been known to wear red unitards at various parties around town, so I'm in."

'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' is scheduled for release in 2009.

It has been noted that Deadpool shares many similarities with the DC ComicsDeathstroke, particularly in regards to the characters' real names (Deathstroke's being Slade Wilson while Deadpool's is Wade Wilson). However, since Deadpool's introduction, Deadpool and Deathstroke have developed in vastly different directions. villain

History/Bio Of Wade Wilson

Deadpool - Marvel Universe: The definitive online source for Marvel super hero bios.

Perhaps the movie will setup as an introduction to the character. After all he is a Merc. Maybe the rivalry will be between Wolverine and Deadpool. Who knows, we'll have to see how it goes before we judge it.

They're making more X-Men? They should just make a fourth...see what happens after everything settled down, and perhaps Magneto raising his powers again.

Ormaybe, the vaccine failed, and all the mutants who got injected regain their powers even stronger and are turned evil by it. Hmm...ofcourse this is the story line to one of my fanfics XD

As for Deadpool....should be intereting, since as Connavar said, he wasn't really a villain.

IDK, maybe they should just call it quits all together while they're ahead?

More on this and other casting news:

More Wolvie casting!

I've only ever been a passing fan of the books, so I don't mind if they reimagine things for the bigscreen adaptations. I think some people can get hung up on what should be, rather than just enjoying it for what it is. I mean, comic books have to be one of the most fluid and inconsistent mediums anyway, what with so many authors and artists working with the same characters...

There is even talk about an X-Men tv series. I think its with some guy playing as Wolverine.

We'll see how well that turns out. Witchblade didn't make it because it was nothing like the comics. So we'll see.

I dont really care about this movie. Despite i enjoy Wolverine stories in the comics sometimes, X-men 3 killed off any hope i had for X-men movies.

Im a long time Deadpool fan and have read almost every DP story and i KNOW he isnt a villain. I know who he they took the idea of Deadpool from both look and merc wise he is copied from DeathStroke. While Stroke is a generic mid level villain in DC. Deadpool is the only funny and cool anti-hero in Marvel. He is very popular thanks to that, i geuss it was only time before they used his in movie.

You dont have give me wiki info, i know more than those people. Just saying he never was a villain.

He is only in this movie thanks to Weapon X connection to Wolverine.

I would watch this movie for him but Reynolds is horrible IMO cause he tries to be too funny. Deadpool is The Simpsons kind of humor. Ironic, sick humor not "HAHA im funny " humor.

My bad i thought you were replaying to my post.

What killed the interest i had for this movie thanks to DP is not only Reynolds but that singer from Black Eyed Peas.

When they have a singer in a movie like this its never a good sign

I never heard of Reynolds before, I dunno anything about a singer and what is DP?

Speaking of singing that part in the cafe in Spiderman 3 was so stupid it was almost funny. At least it would have been if it in any other movie.
