Who is your favorite character is ASOIAF

WHo is your favorite character in ASOIAF and why? It would be tough for me to chose between Jon, which is a favorite of many; Tyrion, and Dany. I like Jon because of his desire to rise from being just a bastard. I like tyrion because of his intelligence, deviousness, and will to live. I like Dany because of the way she has progressed through the story from a scared princess dominated by her brother to being Queen of Mereen(sp?).

Re: Who is your favorite character is ASOIAF

My favorite characters are:

Jason Mallister. He is totally legit and badass.

Arthur Dayne, the Sword of the Morning, and his sword Dawn. Reading about this legend was one of the best parts of the series.

Beric Dondarrion, the lightening lord. A king's man till the very end. He represents everything noble and just, fighting for the people.

And naturally, probably my favorite, Roose Bolton. At the red wedding, his ultimate betrayal in ending Robb's life, is one of my favorite scenes of the entire series so far.

Roose is a dick.

My favourites are:

Renly Baratheon: Laughed a lot and knew how to have a good time.

Jaime Lannister: Went from being to a despicable character to a really cool character, even if he has done some questionable things.

Brynden Tully: The Blackfish is brilliant.

And Daenerys Targayen, I loved it when she took that slave city (Astapor?) with her dragons and her new army of eunuchs. She's the bomb.

My favourite character I can't wait to see more of

and

I believe my answer is in that last one...

Re: Who is your favorite character is ASOIAF

"Roose is a dick"

how the hell is he a dick? because he made a wise decision to get off of a losing ticket and improve his house and position himself/kin to become the lord of the north? he knew they were doomed to fail, to quote robb loosely "i've won every battle but somehow i'm losing the war" and the fact that he was the one to personally kill robb made it all the more sweeter!

besides, i feel like in a series that as a whole is missing really defined archetypes, and there is not a whole lot of people you can point to as predominately evil, Bolton seems to fit the villain role perfectly.

Renly Baratheon I do not believe was that good of a character. He was not alive long enough for good character development. Maybe he should have had his own POV until he was slain.

Jamie Lannister did not become interesting until he lost his sword hand. He was arrogant until then and he has been humbled. His self confidence has been shattered and made him live life with more caution. However I do think it is ironic that he lost the hand that labled him Kingslayer and gives a stark contrast that without his sword hand he is an ineffectual member of the Kingsguard. I wonder what is going to happen to him in new books in the series.

The Blackfish is interesting. Didn't he escape from Jamie Lannister's army?

Dany has certainly grown from that frightened girl into a force hasn't she? Once Tommen and Cersi are dead I believe she will be the Queen of the realm in the end.

Ani, don't mind TK... he's really mad that Cully beat him to the punch on linking all those previous threads.

Now the real research would be to 1) find out who, if anyone, posted their opinion on all those threads and 2) who changed their opinion.

I'm fairly certain that my opinion changes from thread to thread, post to post, year to year and book to book.

Currently my fave is Littlefinger... but ask me again next week... I'll prolly be back in Tyrion's or Jaime's corners.

Oh, and Roose is a **** because he swore oaths to Robert, Eddard and Robb (probably Rickard as well) and then foreswore those vows. At least Vargo Hoat followed the money. Roose, Lord Walder, Balon, Arianne, Cersei, Jaime, Tywin, and Renly are all oathbreakers and traitors.

Tyrion, Rhaegar, Oberyn. In that order. Though I am liking Jaime more and more every day.

Obviously I am new but what's really the problem with a new thread on similar topics every now and then so new people can enjoy the same discussion and old posters can see new viewpoints? I accept that the old thread could bumped each time, but they might also contain posts from posters who no longer post, leading new people to try to start conversations with people who aren't there!

I don't really care either way, just wondering why you seemed bothered? :P

Anyway, my favouite "minor" characters are Qhorin Halfhand (NOT OBVIOUS AT ALL) due to his dedication to the ideals the watch was founded on, even though the watch itself has degraded year after year. He's so focused on what being a man of the Watch is about that he doesn't flinch from any course of action which could guard the realms of men.

I also think Jaquen Hagar is an interesting character. His idiosyncratic way of talking and the way he honours the debt he incurs. He also presents some interesting things about the Faceless Men such as how did he come to be captured in King's Landing and the fact that when confronted with the possibility of killing himself to fulfil the debt, he is willing to do it but wants a way out of it, if possible.

My favourite point of view character would probably be Davos. A lot of characters are presented as acting honourably or the right way out of feeling obligated to by their family or their station but Davos never falters in his loyalty to both Stannis and to what is right. He isn't like that because his is an old, proud name because it isn't and he isn't like that because he stands to gain or lose power if he doesn't, he is driven entirely by his own sense of right. It's pretty rare, really. Even someone like Eddard or Jon, who usually act in the "right" way have motives such as not shaming their name, or obligations of station or their upbringing.

Maybe I should change for avatar to have a picture of me with my tongue firmly in my cheek.

In other words, Qhorin, nobody's bothered really but it's kind of a running joke that newbies (who are always welcomed with fresh ideas and insights might I add) have a tendency to post new threads that have already been discussed. There is a really neat feature on the Chronicles on the top right hand that allows you to search all the previous hundreds of threads for ceratin words or topics. Anyways, I now am the perpretator of beating dead horses and welcome to the forums.

I also like Jaqen and Davos but Tyrion is top choice.

Re: Who is your favorite character is ASOIAF

My favorite characters seem to be those everyone else hates. I enjoy reading Jaime, Sansa, Catelyn, and Dany the most.

You can find excessive amounts of reading about that in the threads posted above, including my very long defense/discussion of Sansa in some thread somewhere. It might be I'll post the link if I find it.

Oooh nevermind. The thread I was thinking of has vanished, I know so because I was the one who started it. Although it used to be part of another, larger thread that I derailed, so it could be that whichever admin originally gave it its own life put it back. Is this possible? Its the only explanation that I could think of.

Re: Who is your favorite character is ASOIAF

Welcome Qhorin.

On every forum, in which I've participated, it seems like there is a reluctance of vets to see new threads that cover the same topic as previous threads.

As to my personal feelings, I welcome new comments! I know what many of us already think on many subjects... same old, same old. The only new perspectives we get are when we try to be silly... I can confidently say I'm one of the sillier of the bunch here.

New perspectives, theories, and ideas are vital to our continued discussion here.

On the other hand, I wonder if new threads (repeating a familiar topic) take up more space/memory/whatever (I'm a Luddite) on the Chronicles website/server/bandwidth (I repeat, I'm a Luddite) and therefore costs I, Brian more money than just posting in older threads.

The other case for posting in existing threads is that I know where to look to find information, theories, and quotes. When there are more than a couple of threads on the same topic, it takes me forever and a day to find what I'm looking for.

Jaime is now my fave.

Re: Who is your favorite character is ASOIAF

I'm new to this forum and am glad that somebody posted this thread. I'm lazy and it was nice to not have to search and read through a big thread.

I really like Sandor Clegane. I'd like to know more about him and am hoping although he was "last seen feverish and dying beside the Trident" he did not die. He could have found any body and buried it with his helm.

I also like Jaimie and Brienne. Arya and Jon. But most of all those dire wolves. I think I mourned Lady and Grey Winds deaths more than the humans that died. So I am hoping that Nymeria is reunited with Arya somehow.

God, there are just far too many characters in these books to choose!
