Why didn't Deanna die?

I'm sure I saw it stated in a couple of NextGen epidodes, where possible futures were covered, that saw Deanna Troi dead.

The very last episode, and an earlier one that played against Riker and Worf's competition for Deanna, I'm sure both had them lamenting Deanna...

Sure, they were only possible futures - but it always seemed like a strong hint that they were going to kill her off. And as they had her take captain's training (like counselors do) I thought we would finally see a trek captain die with their ship...

But, no, never happened.

Why didn't it happen? Should it have happened? Will something like that ever happen in future releases - if any contain NextGen crew?

If I were writing a continuation of Next Gen, I would definitely kill off Troi and Riker will remarry someone far more interesting than Troi could ever hope to be.

Re: Why didn't Deanna die?

The only time I can remember a future where she died was in "All Good Things" which was the final next gen episode. I always got the impression that it was only a plot device to put some antagonism between future Riker & Worf.
I think the other episode you're referring to was "Parallels" where Worf experiences alternate realities and, in one, he is Troi's husban

As for never seeing a captain die with his ship, well Picard and the Enterprise died quite a few times that I can remember! In Generations for one, and in several next gen episodes as well (Cause and Effect for one)

Didn't he shoot himself in one episode?

On another note, it seems banging Worf is bad for your health

Sorry to butt in - but does this hold the record for the thread with the longest consideration-of reply times ever?

Re: Why didn't Deanna die?

There was a ST:TNG novel set in a "future" in which she had died. I thought there was going to be some time travel involved that might undo/prevent it, though, but maybe it was indeed permanent and it refers to the same thing that "All Good Things" does. I don't know the full story because the book was too dull to get very far in. (Someone in my family gave it to me, but I they must not have known that the title "Imzadi" meant it would be more a romance novel than a ST:TNG novel.)

See the World Domination thread - no replies for over five years until it inspired me to start Byluph.
Now it's had almost 130 replies (and almost two thirds of those not by me )

Hey, there's still time yet!

(For her to die, that is, though it could equally apply to the 130 replies)
