| Get STAKED My first novel, STAKED, is coming out March 11th, 2008 from Simon & Schuster's Pocket Books imprint. So far the response has been very positive. I got a good cover blurb: "A pedal-to-the-metal demolition derby of sex and violence. Werewolves and vampires were never so much fun." - Mario Acevedo, author of X-rated Bloodsuckers I've only had one review so far, but it was nice as well: "... certainly impressive for a debut. The plot is reminiscent of the early, and best, of the Anita Blake novels." - Don D'Ammassa, Hugo nominated editor and author of multiple novels and short stories. ![]() UNREPENTANT. UNIMPRESSED. AND TOTALLY UNDEAD. Eric's got issues. He has short-term and long-term memory problems; he can't remember who he ate for dinner yesterday, much less how he became a vampire in the first place. His best friend, Roger, is souring on the strip club he and Eric own together. And his girlfriend, Tabitha, keeps pressuring him to turn her so she can join him in undeath. It's almost enough to put a Vlad off his appetite. Almost. Eric tries to solve one problem, only to create another: he turns Tabitha into a vampire, but finds that once he does, his desire for her fades -- and her younger sister, Rachel, sure is cute. And when he kills a werewolf in self-defense, things really get out of hand. Now a pack of born-again lycanthropes is out for holy retribution, while Tabitha and Rachel have their own agendas -- which may or may not include helping Eric stay in one piece. All Eric wants to do is run his strip club, drink a little blood, and be left alone. Instead, he must survive car crashes, enchanted bullets, sunlight, sex magic, and werewolves on ice -- not to mention his own nasty temper and forgetfulness. Because being undead isn't easy, but it sure beats the alternative. --- Basically, it's a vampire novel for people who normally hate vampire books, but also for those who love them. I'm pretty sure its also the only book with a werewolves on ice hockey fight. ![]() If that wasn't enough info, feel free to find out more than you might reasonably want to know about my publishing journey at my home page: Jeremy F. | Re: Get STAKED Congratulations, Jeremy! Visiting your website, I encountered only friendly pages, but when I tried to see your blog, my anti-virus programme (Kaspersky, a very cautious kind of guy) told me that it is used for phishing. You surely are no phisher, a vampire, maybe, but not a phisher. You should check this. Perhaps the blog is sending out mysterious cookies that don't sit well with my supercilious digital knight. Regards, Gio |

Re: Get STAKED Thanks for the info, Gio. I'll see if I can figure out what's going on. As far as I know the only thing that offers a cookie is the hit counter, but it should be a standard cookie... hmmm...

Re: Get STAKED Been there. Nothing bit me. Blog safe. Your journey to publication is reassuring, Jeremy. I remark that you made it in spite of one of two mistakes (not researching the market at first and mispelling an agent's name twice--that was daring). And what about invading the Islands? Or am I to get the beast from amazon-over-the-pond? Gio

Re: Get STAKED I know the foeign rights are being shopped about (inserted publishers should give Danny Baror a yell), but in the short term, it looks as if the book is available for pre-order in English at Amazon.fr : livres, DVD, jeux video, CD, lecteurs MP3, ordinateurs, appareils photo, logiciels et plus encore ! as well several other flavors of amazon (.uk, .com, and .de). My French isn't strong enough to really tell how cost effective it is to purchase that way though... if shipping is more than normal, etc. I'm more on the level of: "Je voudrais l'eau." and "Firmez la porte." On the Blog: Yay! Glad to know my blog isn't attacking people. I can imagine the call to tech support. "Uh... yeah, my blog has started biting people... No, I mean with teeth... well, fangs really... hello?" And yes, there was a certain amount of blundering on my trek toward publication. I'm making less missteps now, but when I do they are usually smaller than before... though I live in fear that I'll accidentally send an email to the wrong person and annoy the heck out of my editor, agent, or some poor SFWA member who only sent me an email so that I could add it to the SFWA Pressbook. --Jeremy

Re: Get STAKED Another good review! This time from the Library Journal. ![]() “Lewis, J.F.Staked. Pocket Bks: S. & S. Mar. 2008. c.352p. ISBN 978-1-4165-4780-8. pap. $14. FANTASY The hero of Lewis's humorous debut is Eric, a vampire having a bad week, with a poor memory and raging blackouts. In the midst of a rough tantrum, he realizes he has torn off the head of a fellow undead, but he can't remember who the victim is or why he killed him. As the story continues, however, Eric proves to be a much nicer guy than the opening would suggest. With a host of interesting characters—the elderly human Marilyn, the greatest love of Eric's life; Tabitha, the stripper-turned-vampire who loves Eric; evangelical werewolf William, who erroneously believes Eric killed his son; and Roger, co-owner with Eric of the Demon Heart Strip Club—this is a fast-paced story with a heady mixture of humor, violence, and sex. Recommended for large fantasy collections.” http://www.libraryjournal.com/article/CA6529602.html --Jeremy
