I have read 28.5 Gemmell Books......

...... the one I have not read yet was under his alias. Guess which one I could not finish. I think back to when I read half of it and thought that maybe something in my everyday life caused me to put it down and not pick it up.

I read the book untill Druss died at the walls and afterwards I could not pick it up again, I am sure that they fend off the Nadir horde, but I don't know how.

Yup it was Legend. Weird eh? To this day I have not finished his most popular book. I even read the book of his earlier years. For some reason I don't like Druss as much as other characters like Caswalon, Conavar, Bane, Jaim for sure, Taliban, Viruk, Tarantio and even Jarek Mace. That's just me I guess. Anyone out there who didn't find him as interesting as others?

In short, NO, I loved the character in question and still think of LEGEND as Gemmells best book. Mind you it was the first of his I read and after that I had to read them all. The only one I aven't read is also WHITE KNIGHT, BLACK SWAN under ROSS HARDING, but if I can ever find a copy of it , I would love to read it.

You really should try, SC...you may be surprised! But I do have some sympathy with your situation...I found it hard to believe Gemmell'd do that as well....

Re: I have read 28.5 Gemmell Books......

Legend is the fantasy that brought me most emotions. His best books still for me. Not my favorit cause i like Shannow most but it is by far his best written and best told story.

It was so well written and full of so many great characters.

I finished it in the bus, forgot where i was going cause i was feeling so much. Im not ashamed to say i had tears in my eye after the epilogue.

You have to finish it even if you hate Druss. He isnt the only character in it.

Peronally i dig Druss. He is my third favorit hero after Shannow,Connavar.

His last scene is one of the coolest i have seen in a DG story.

Ill have to pick it up, I just bought Ravenheart again 2 days ago and I am already half way through it.

I don't hat Druss. I just don't find him as interesting as other caracters. I think he is still a great character in a great story.

Druss is not my favorite character either I am with Connovar Shannow is my favorite along with Waylander and Mannanan apart from the RH the only one I have not read is the third of the Troy books which I haven't picked up yet, but you should finish Legend a must for any Gemmell fan, personally I prefer Rek and Bowman to Druss in this story.

NOSTA KHAN? ok he was always trying to further the cause of the Nadir, but he was almost always a villian in the eyes of the heroes.

Re: I have read 28.5 Gemmell Books......

I agree that I don't think Druss was his best character, or Legend his best book. I read White Wolf first, then Legend (when I just picked up some of his books at random, not knowing anything about them - spoilerthough being shown how Druss dies at the end of White Wolf meant it wasn't a great way to read them...) and preferred White Wolf. I like Druss better in some of the other books, and I generally prefer others like Skilgannon, Waylander and Parmenion. Druss is great fun, but some of his other characters are more interesting. Though, Legend was his first book, so it's natural that his writing will have improved as he wrote others.
