La Bouée

Those who have no exams are opening pubs, restaurants, shops, new territories or manufactories – and here I’m sailing round the oceans on a ship who can navigate herself.

Perhaps scribe services ? Write a letter ‘ome fer yer, Guv ?
No, most here are more than adequately literate – and those who have read my introduction posts understandably hestant about the results (look, you’re welcomed, aren’t you ? Where else would you get welcomed like that ?)

Ah, well, I’ll just have to fall back on my primary gifts.
A stage, with a powerful PA and decent stage monitors. A jam stage, with a selection of guitar amps, a couple of bass amps and some keyboard stacks.

The instruments you don’t want to carry ; two grand pianos that disappear under the stage floor on electric lifts, A couple of drum kits, on wheeled (lockable) risers, a selection of cymbals and most of the LP selection of hand-hrld percussion instruments. A Hammond B3 with leslie, a modular synthesiser, a Fender Rhodes.. Upright bass, harpsichord, baritone sax.

Plus a couple of ordinary instruments for those who might have forgotten theirs – nothing clever, a couple of Ibanez electric guitars and a five-string bass, acoustics with built in contact mics, autoharp, idem.

In front of the stage, the “dancefloor“. Alomost no furniture, a couple of chairs and one, big table reinforced till you can dance on it – wait a minute, we’ve got dragons, I’ll weld on a couple of girders.

Around the dancefloor a semicircle of tables, set up for four people each. Six if they’re very good freinds, two if one of them’s a dragon. A volume control on each table, so you can either enjoy the music, or fade it out completely. Acoustic isolation to the point that you can’t shout at the table next to you – but you can dial them up on a conference circuit, so it’ll sound as if you’re at the same table.
No service as such ; food and (primarily) beverages are routed under the floor, and apperar through the table top. A limited selection, always two vegetarian, two mweat, two fish and two salad, plus pizzas. Nothing gourmet. A screen in the middle of the table allows you to make orders, communicate with the other tables, log on to the net if the music’s a bit slow…
The monitor position has a little room with the microphones, DI boxes, in-ear monitors, cables, all the junk. The other side of the stage is the DJ booth, facilities for vinyl, CD. DVD, mp3… He (she?) will also have a selection of mix minus backing tracks, and a karaoke set up.

The FOH position has the main sound desk, the lighting desk, and a couple of follow spots. It’s high enough that it won’t disturb sightlines, and has it’s own food lift (and beer fridge).

Dressing rooms ? Do you think we’ll need them ?

Re: La Bouée

You might need dressing rooms, particularly if there are people who really want to get into the karaoke.

Re: La Bouée

Ah, I thought I'd got the décor wrong (well. I probably did; it's not my forté) but someone's looked in. Right, dressing rooms (six, I think, but they'll have to double as tuning rooms) it is.
Dark violet doesn't suit? I can still change the paint.

Re: La Bouée

Well, I think the dark violet gives it a great atmosphere, Perhaps you just need a big sign saying " NOW OPEN" it might work.

Do you mind if I check out the instruments?

Re: La Bouée

*wanders round on stages and gets a feel for things, heads of to the change room and puts on suitable performing attire *

I think I might give the Karaoke a go.

*instruments start playing in the back, the Lady picks up the microphone*

Them thats got shall get
Them thats not shall lose
So the Bible said and it still is news
Mama may have, papa may have
But God bless the child thats got his own
Thats got his own

Yes, the strong gets more
While the weak ones fade
Empty pockets dont ever make the grade
Mama may have, papa may have
But God bless the child thats got his own
Thats got his own

Money, youve got lots of friends
Crowding round the door
When youre gone, spending ends
They dont come no more
Rich relations give
Crust of bread and such
You can help yourself
But dont take too much
Mama may have, papa may have
But God bless the child thats got his own
Thats got his own

Mama may have, papa may have
But God bless the child thats got his own
Thats got his own
He just worry bout nothin
Cause hes got his own

Re: La Bouée

*applauds Wybren*

Ooh, now this looks fun! I could warble some embarrassing Celine Dion tunes in here and you'd all have to put up with me.

I live my life like a runaway
I hide my dreams in a special place
I'm waiting here for my prince to come
To save me from the darkness

I count the nights, I count the days
The ways, yeah
Don't wanna fight, it would be in vain
So in vain, so in vain

I can run but I can't hide
It's because... I'm living in the shadow of love
Yeah, yeah
To me you are the only one I dream of
I'm living in the shadow of love

Your love surrounds me, it's everywhere
It is my shelter, it is my air
A moon eclipse and a burning sun
Make a shade just for me

For you I wait forever and a day
Yes I would
To be there if your love should come my way
My way

I can run but I can't hide
It's because... I'm living in the shadow of love
Yeah
To me you are the only one I dream of
I'm living in the shadow of love

Too many nights, too many days
I've hidden from the sun
And though I've tried to break away
You hold a leash just too strong

I love you in the shadow of love

I can run but I can't hide
It's because... I'm living in the shadow of love
Yeah
To me you are the only one I dream of
Cause I'm living in the shadow of love

It's because... living in the shadow of love
Shadow of love, yeah
I can run but I can't hide
It's because... the shadow of love
Shadow of love

Re: La Bouée

Doesn't bother to get up from the mixing console and onto sage, but plogs in a Korkg WS and a mic back there

Sings quietly, with a somewhat eccentrig rhythm pattern

So take me disappearing through the smoke rings of my mind
Through the foggy ruins of time
Far past the frozen leaves, the haunted, frightened trees
Down to the windy beach, far past the twisted reach of crazy sorrow.
Oh, to stand beneath the diamond skies with one hand waving free
Silhouetted by the sea
With all memory and fate driven deep beneath the waves,
Let me forget about today -- until tommorow

Hey; Mister tamborine man, play a song for me
I'm not sleepy, and there is no place I'm going to.
Hey; Mister Tamborine man, play a song for me
In the jingle-jangle morning I'll come - following you.

Re: La Bouée

Bravo Chris, that is great.

Steps up to the mic one last time for the night

La mer

Qu'on voit danser le long des golfes clairs

A des reflets d'argent

La mer

Des reflets changeants

Sous la pluie

La mer

Au ciel d'été confond

Ses blancs moutons

Avec les anges si purs

La mer bergère d'azur

Infinie

Voyez

Près des étangs

Ces grands roseaux mouillés

Voyez

Ces oiseaux blancs

Et ces maisons rouillées

La mer

Les a bercés

Le long des golfes clairs

Et d'une chanson d'amour

La mer

A bercé mon coeur pour la vie

Re: La Bouée

Hey, this is my place, so nobody can complain if I sing something I wrote, right?

Copies a quarter inch tape onto CD to have the version without vocals - hm, 1984.

Ah well spins disc

Cross light-years dark
By thoughts of peace we’re drawn.
We disembark
Dreams die stillborn

Pain, anger, fears
Wars blooming everywhere
Starvation, tears,
But arms to spare.

Blue planet Earth, you live a lie.
Blue planet Earth, of lead-grey sky

A refugee
Come seeking for the light
From what I see
I run in fright
Poisonned sea bed
To war-torn mountain slopes
Everything’s dead
Including hopes

Where to now ? your terrestrial paradise lost,
You’ve destroyed your resources regardless of cost.
Cross the sky yourblue island called us from afar
Beaconned haven for voyagers from star to star.

Ecological suicide, who did it serve?
Last wild animal sulks in a nature reserve.
Clumsy apprentice sorcerers, haven’t you learnt
That when playing with fire, someone’s going to get burnt?

Come from afar
Resume our journeying
Another star
Where birds still sing

And soon your race
Will launch into the void
Seek to replace
Your world destroyed

Out through the void
Leave death-grey mother Earth.
A dream destroyed
Beyond rebirth.

Plays 'Wonderful Land,' on comb and paper, the only instrument he can play.

Re: La Bouée

Applauds Chris, Wybren, and The Ace.

I've never heard someone play a kazoo with a comb and paper before!

*sneaks to the dancefloor*

And now, ladies and gentlemen, I will do something amazing.

*Emu Jenny/Leish starts breakdancing to ABBA*

Woooo, watch me go! This is fun.

I betcha didn't think an emu could breakdance, did you?

Re: La Bouée

*steps up to mic, whispers something to the musicians*

Would you like to swing on a star
Carry moonbeams home in a jar
And be better off than you are
Or would you rather be a mule?

A mule is an animal with long funny ears
Kicks up at anything he hears
His back is brawny and his brain is weak
He's just plain stupid with a stubborn streak
And by the way, if you hate to go to school
You may grow up to be a mule

Or would you like to swing on a star
Carry moonbeams home in a jar
And be better off than you are
Or would you rather be a pig?

A pig is an animal with dirt on his face
His shoes are a terrible disgrace
He ain't got no manners when he eats his food
He's fat and lazy and extremely rude
But if you don't care a feather or a fig
You may grow up to be a pig

Or would you like to swing on a star
Carry moonbeams home in a jar
And be better off than you are
Or would you rather be a fish?

A fish won't do anything, but swim in a brook
He can't write his name or read a book
And to fool the people is his only thought
And though he's slippery, he still gets caught
But then if that sort of life is what you wish
You may grow up to be a fish

And all the monkeys aren't in the zoo
Every day you meet quite a few
So you see it's all up to you
You can be better than you are
You could be swingin' on a star
