Re: Best Siege

Seems no one likes the siege of Olasko very much...I can see why. Wasn't the most inspiring fight after all

I must apologise again for the omission of Armengar; its been a while since I read the book and I was only thinking of sieges in the Kingdom, except Olasko, at the time. Otherwise I may have included Maharta, where good old Biggo lost his life.

My main problem with Darmoor was the way the siege was ended. A bit of an anti-climax IMO.
The out come of Armengar and krondor was very similar, but as Krondor was not built for defense in the way that Armengar was, I'd still have to pick krondor.
I meant it was written the best

Re: Best Siege

I'm noy saying that Armengar wasn't a great siege, I just prefered Krondor IMO. With Armengar the defenders had the advantage of a city built for defense. OK, they still lost the city and it was a great read, but Krondor sticks in my mind more, probably because after reading so much about Krondor through his other books, I feel more attached to that city. I felt that when reading about Armengar, you sort of knew that the place was going to fall, where as with Krondor, I was expecting it to be saved in some way, not utterly destroyed.
What I enjoyed more about Armengar was the inclusion of the Dark Elves, I really enjoyed reading about thier culture, Probably that's why I enjoyed Honoured Enemy aswell.
Just my opinion.

Re: Best Siege

I agree that Armengar was written the best, and a fantastic siege. It is definitely my favourite!
Krondor is brilliant as well, the loss of the city and some main characters is heartbreaking and poignant.

Well, that makes a batch of us. I too think Armengar was the best of the bunch, and I wonder how many of the votes under 'other' are votes for Armengar...

Re: Best Siege

All of them I mcguess.
I haven't read RoaDK in a while but I always thought that Krondor fell in a short period - hardly even a siege. It seemed to take very little time even if there was a fair bit of description. I always kind of considered a seige lasting at least a couple of days. The second seige that begins in SoaBC is better in this regard than the first one mentioned - to my way of thinking anyways.
Olasko is in my least favourite Feist series so I'm probably a tad biased on that front.
Sethanon seemed to get very little coverage' in terms of the action of the seige, at least thats what I remember, so.....
Darkmoor was important and more drawn out but seemed to be mainly a side-story whilst I felt the key plot machinations were taking place elsewhere most of the time, with Pug etc.
Crydee gets a fair descript and is important, to me at least, and in the wider picture of Magiacian as well. This is the seige that comes closest to Armengar in my opinion.

My tuppence worth!

Re: Best Siege

I think Armengar was a descriptive work of art....

read DAS at least twice as often as the rest of the Feist novels, and thats at minimum, a LOT!

Re: Best Siege

I thought the siege of Krondor was terrible, it had a massive build up, yet you hardly saw the siege! I was very dissapointed

Re: Best Siege

I've voted for "other" mainly because I like a few that I didn't wanna pick between them.

The Krondor Siege was good and upsetting Complete massacre of many characters we loved

The Darkmoor Siege was brilliant. Against all odds the guys came out victorious Good old Erik.

The Armengar Siege was also brilliant. So many different ideas went into that and as Morgasshk said it definately was a descriptive work of art.
Oh and we got to see the return of Guy Du Bas Tyra. Who totally kicked arse, he would have made a good Prince of Krondor I reckon if anything had happened to Arutha.
