Re: How do you buy your books? Mass Market Paperbacks are about $7-8 now, approx. 4lbs. Trade papers run about $15 (7.50lb.), but hardbounds can easily make it into the forty dollar range, especially if they're nonfiction. I buy books used when I can help it, although so many of the little orphans followed me home that now I'm hesitant to walk into any bookstore, new or used, without a dedicated book list that I've first checked out at the library.

Re: How do you buy your books? Yeah, I've no idea how to get the proper pound sign on a US keyboard. We've got the $ sign up there, and it's on the 4. Shift+3 is the # sign. (There are several small variances in keyboard layout...) Sorry!

Re: How do you buy your books? I used to spend a lot of time in city bookshops but now I live in the countryside and on my occasional expeditions into the urban jungle I have no time for browsing. I also used to buy over the phone from the late lamented Andromeda bookshop in Brum, because they sent out nice catalogues with plot summaries, but since they went TU all my buying is from amazon.co.uk. I keep a running list of "to buy" books, heavily influenced by forum comments - which reminds me, it's time I placed another bulk order!

Re: How do you buy your books? The ones I really want are bought New. All others are Used, if possible. It's quite the simple (and cost effective) rule to live by. But, of course, the best way is by getting a local library card and checking it out there (can you tell that I come from a family of librarians?)

Re: How do you buy your books? I prefer to buy in a used book shop. I just love pouring through piles of books and finding some gems. More popular stuff I'll get on ebay. If I buy in bulk on ebay it is pretty cheap. Occasionally I'll buy new but that can get chostly and I hate when a novel is turned into a movie and the actor is on the cover of the book. I robot now has Will Smith.

Re: How do you buy your books? Not a big fan of shopping around. I'll go on Amazon, make my decision, then head over to Borders or Barnes & Noble and buy it. I prefer to do my "search for treasures" stuff on Amazon. I understand the indie appeal of used book stores, but I usually prefer to walk in knowing what I want, and that they have it. I do like to chill in a chair at those places and read, though.
