| Re: plot query Well, if you passed the quest on to another character people would be annoyed. There is a general agreement between the reader and the writer. One of those things is that if you introduce a character early on and give them a large part, then the reader can rightfully expect that they are the protagonist. To change that mid-way would mean having to regain their trust. Your best bet, as far as I can tell; would be to use the quest as a sub-plot. That way the main quester could be a minor character who dies. This would then add to the mammoth task facing the main protagonist. People like to support the under dog. The more odds against a hero, the more you want him to overcome them. Just make sure it remains plausible! |
