Re: UK Writers websites?

So, no one knows about Litopia?

I've been looking at their "join us" page, and they ask you to post a sample of your writing. They want to avoid having people who can't spell and doesn't know grammar. Fair enough. But they have just about 180 members. Counting the people who must have left (they have existed for 5 years) and those who never post, this leaves a pretty small community, doesn't it?

Browsing, I've learnt that Litopia was created by the Redhammer agency.

Isn't this a bit limiting? I mean, as John Jarrold tells us all the time, "chacun son goût".
In other words, being on a place kept by another agent could be a negative point in the eye of all the others.

I don't know. I don't feel like investing my time in critiquing somewhere and then leave because the place is no good.

Any opinion?

Personally, as someone who is not that good at spelling or grammar, I find that condition a bit nasty. To me it really doesn't matter, it's about telling the story.

I should start a forum where no one without imagination is allowed to enter.

I'm now stepping off my soap box and back to my writers cave. LOL

Ah but language is the tool you use to tell your story. If you shut the toolbox and walk away from it, you'll never know how your story may be suffering.

If dyslexia is an issue, don't let it be. Write your story, then have a friend check it over before you submit it. There are some highly successful authors working out there who are dyslexic, and it isn't holding them back.

Re: UK Writers websites?

I'v never been tested for dyslexia so I couldn't say. Personally, I feel it's the horrendously bad teaching I had to endure during the 1980s. LOL

Now don't get me on my cave soap box again! LOL.

Now I can all see you getting the calculators out to find out my age. Yep the Maths teaching was bad too. LOL!
