Re: Deanna's Reread and Randomness

Update on my reread: my attention span is not long enough to make a second commitment to the series.

My attention span is not long enough to remember what I wanted to post when i thought about posting it.

Re: Deanna's Reread and Randomness

Take notes as you read. Then post them one at a time or wait until the reread is over and synthesize your notes and come up with the answers to all of our blathering.

Re: Deanna's Reread and Randomness

I decided a few days ago to redo my reread... I wasn't very far anyway. Someone suggested I take notes since I can only hold a thought in my head for, like, thirty seconds.

What was I going to write about?

Anyway, I am not making headway because I do not want to read that first chapter of the first book. It's very boring as a reread. And its creepy. It was creepy in the first place, and it is creepy in the second. That Ser-whoever-gets-killed was an ass, too. I don't like to read about that lordling bossing around two older and wiser gentlemen of the Night's Watch. It really P's me O! I hate people like that, even in books. However, while I know for almost certain that nothing more can be gleamed from that chapter, I am commited to a thorough examination of it. I like to pull **** from nothing.

I can't wait to get to the Jon chapter where the feat is going on. I have been fancying (Is that how you spell that?) the idea of Benjen being Jon's dad. Maybe Lyanna and Benjen shared something in common with two eldest Lannisters... Probably not. Actually, just NOT. Benjen sounded final about his comment when he tells Jon "A shame I'm not," after Jon says, "You're not my father!"

Here's the important thing, the thing which remains a mystery. Benjen is provoking Jon to join the Night's Watch. He seems to be discouraging him, but I really think he's just fanning his flame, like Cersei "discouraging" King Robert from taking part in the Hand's Tourney. So, my question remains: Is Uncle Benjen's only motivation to make an honorable knight out of Jon? Does he really just want Jon to find a place where he, too, can rise to knighthood like his siblings? Or is there more....?

Re: Deanna's Reread and Randomness

I don't think he wanted him to join, but deep inside it was a source of pride that one of his family members would want to and be there with him.

I don't think there is any past mystery when it comes to Benjen. I.e him being Jons father or him dying years before etc etc ... I think he is what he is.

The only mystery nowadays is, is he dead? Did he find the children of the forest? Is he a wight?

When it comes to his quote to Jon about not being his father i think it was just wishful thinking. That he wished he had a son. Maybe he wishes Jon was. You know like a dear family friend or uncle that is single all his life but takes a deep interest in one of your kids like it was his own due to the fact that he doesnt have one. Thats all.

Re: Deanna's Reread and Randomness

You know what? I agree with you about Benjen being just Uncle Benjen. But you know what else? I enjoy making something out of nothing. I can be a drama queen for a day, in a forum. Or a Donna Quixote. It's my thread, and I'll be irrational if I want to

So, Benjen is totally Rhaegar, right?

I was thinking about something tonight when I was cooking dinner. I was thinking of Bran's first chapter when Gearge gives the descriptions of Brans two older brothers. It describes Robb just like his namesake, Robert. Hes robust, hearty, intense, extraverted. Jon, while darker like Robert, seems to be more like Rhaegar, lean, quieter.... more myseterious, intraverted. Oh, except, of course, Robb was raised with a Stark's honor.

I always read with nervousness about Robb and Jon, hoping their relationship wasn't too fragile. Now that Robb's dead, I don't need to worry any more. Thank God. (Is that sick?)

The first time I read it, I just thought Jon was more like his dad, Ned. But now I think he's more like his other dad. I think the whole Jon/Robb relationship kind of mends the Rhaegar/Robert thing.

Re: Deanna's Reread and Randomness

Well, Jon and Robb are related while Rheagar and Robert are not...

Re: Deanna's Reread and Randomness

Rhaegar and Robert are actually something like seventh cousins twice removed on their mother's sides. But DeBe's point is that Robb and Jon take after their point of namesake... which would seem to mean that we should compare Jon to Lord Arryn.

Re: Deanna's Reread and Randomness

This is the most random, bizarre thing I have to post as of yet. In fact, it borders craziness.

I was reading A Game of Thrones beofre I went to bed two nights ago. That night, I dreamed about the stupid book, and that Ned was a dwarf. I was thinking, "How could I have missed that? Why do I keep forgetting that?" There was this scene (in my dream) where Ned comes back from hunting, acting drunk and King Robert-like, and Catelyn is being kind toward him, but I think she was pissed hat he was acting a fool in front of the kids. She kinda reminded me of Sansa when she was marrying Tyrion.

I kept wondering if that meant something concerning Tyrion and Ned and their bloodlines. Sometimes things get screwed around in dreams.

So, I know that sounds weird, but it's really not particicularly weird. Sometimes, I have random dreams all night long. Last night one of my nightmares was that I had to replan my wedding. Ah, the stress! (The dream included a full cast of psycho family members and in-laws, thank you.)
