| story submits - normalizing About to embark on a series of short stories, I'll be submitting to the paper magazines. Like Analog, Omini, etc, Science Fiction & Fantasy, says "The SF element may be slight, but it should be present. We prefer character-oriented stories. We receive a lot of fantasy fiction, but never enough science fiction or humor. Do not query for fiction; send the entire manuscript. We publish fiction up to 25,000 words in length." But isn't there a more ideal word count? This figure seems out of the norm. I'm looking for word counts that would satisfy across the board, not necessarily what is stated.
