Darious part 3

It had been nearly four days since they had left the camp. There were only forty of them now; they would lose a few every day. Darious was still in bad shape. His wounds would not stop bleeding and he could barley stay awake. Every time he woke it seemed a different day, and a different place. The leader of the group who seemed to be a lieutenant kept them moving at a grueling pace. They needed to get to the castle before the horde struck.

Darious awoke one night to see that they had camped in the middle of a large field, and over heard the lieutenant and Earl speaking.

“Two more days we should be there.” Said the lieutenant

“Most of them will not survive another day. We have no food and little water.”

“Keep those that are able to travel and the others will have to be left behind. They are slowing us down too much. We have to make it there before they strike or else we will be unable to get in.”

“We can just leave them here! They will surely die! Some of them can be saved!”

“Only those that can ride a horse!” There was some shuffling and Darious slipped back into a deep sleep.

Darious awoke the next morning; he could just see the group in the distance. He had been left behind. There was no way that he could survive very much long without some kind of aid. With difficulty he sat up to see who else had been left behind. About thirty of them, most of them not conscious, lay around in a large circle.

Darious tried to stand, tried to go on to follow the group but his wounds were too much and he was forcefully pushed back down, as if by an invisible hand. Breathing heavily he tried to calm himself, he wasn’t going to get anywhere, he might as well sit back and wait for his time to come. He drifted off into sleep again when the pain had subsided.

Three days had passed and Darious was barely holding on. He opened his eyes to see the camp surrounded by a few score of men. The wore the emblem of the high order. Paladins! They were the high order’s warriors.

Darious heard them speaking in low voices and then about ten men dismounted and started checking everyone. Darious wasn’t able to keep his eyes open long enough for them to come to him; he just hoped that they wouldn’t take him for dead.

Re: Darious part 3

Hello, not long enough to get a feel for it, but it is part 3, I must have missed parts 1 and 2.

Anyway

could barley stay awake!
lay around in a large circle - I would have said lay in a large circle.

'He drifted off into sleep again when the pain had subsided' - I'd try and rephrase this.

The wore the emblem of the high order. Paladins! They were the high order’s warriors - you say High Order twice in close succession.

Cheers
