Larry Niven "Protector"

Thanks !! After typing two paragraphs of description to post here I remember that the "aliens" were Protectors. At least the one was, they were really The Pak collectively.

It was probably the act of "typing two paragraphs of description to post here" that triggered him remembering the name of the Pak.

And if he hadn't done so to ask the Chrons, he wouldn't have remembered.

And if we hadn't got the reputation to know such things, he wouldn't be asking.

So, we should accept the thanks as our rightful due!

And not all Pak became protectors, anyway. The vast majority were breeders, as a protector needed protectables to survive. And, as we are directly descended from Pak breeders, we can be considered as... that wasn't what this thread was about, was it?
