do you think it's possible or likely GRRM will do a series prequel? The Star Wars movies start out at the end then years later we see the younger players. There is a lot of story lines in the current series that would make a good pre-series but I don't know since we alread know what happens that would ruin it. Has this been discussed before?

Re: do you think it's possible or likely GRRM will do a series prequel? The Hedge Knight set before the events. Personally I think part of the wonder of his world is that we don't know all about the past - that there was a time of high magic and flights of dragons but that now things have changed. That said, he cerainly does not lack for material to build on or for a fan base willing to soak up the tales. I have also not read it all , but there is the book he published most recently - that I can;t remember the title of - which contains many of his earlier works - chances are that even if there are not true back stories in there, there willl be ones that have a similar basis - those that helped forge the world in his minds eye - -its possible

Re: do you think it's possible or likely GRRM will do a series prequel? I'd love to see a series about Robert's rebellion, but I don't think it will ever happen. After he's finished this series he'll have been working on it for what, twenty, twenty-five years? I imagine he'll want a break from Westeros. And I think I've heard say in interviews that he'd be unlikely to write any sequels or prequels - you might have to wait for our more knowledgeable posters to confirm or deny that. But then again maybe we'll get lucky... Just don't hold your breath.

Re: do you think it's possible or likely GRRM will do a series prequel? I think, maybe, that the Dunk and Egg novellas might end with the events at Summerhall. Where Dunk and Egg both die (amongst others) as King and Lord Commander. The end being us knowing how or what they did there with the events surrounding the attempt of dragon hatching/ Rhaegars birth.

Re: do you think it's possible or likely GRRM will do a series prequel? GRRM has a number of Dunk 'n' Egg novellas planned, between six and twelve. Apparently these will take us from The Hedge Knight right up to the events of Summerhall, and he hasn't ruled out some of the later ones (the ones he will write post-ASoIaF) being longer or novel-length. GRRM has also said he'd love to write a novel about King Aegon IV (Aegon the Unworthy), who was basically the Henry VIII of Westeros. He thought it would be great to write a first-person novel about one of Westeros' worst kings but with him as the hero of his own story. Obviously this would only be done when ASoIaF was complete. According to rumour, the current Legacy of the Force series of novels is based in part on Lucas' outline for Episodes 7-9.
