Re: Show us your instrument! ... Stop that, it's silly. Well yea mostly. But I suppose you could play stuff like Fleetwood Mac's The Chain or Smoke on the Water etc. Or maybe a bit of slap bass a la Mark King?

Re: Show us your instrument! ... Stop that, it's silly. Couldn't help but post a bit of Wooten in defence (It's Vic on bass and his brother Reg on guitar), there's certainly a bit more than smoke on the water that can be done. In the end you can experiment and create on any instrument (but as with any instrument the best way to learn is eventually to play with other people). Personally I've always just loved the sound of the bass .YouTube - victor wooten awesome thump battle Couldnt get embeding to work Last edited by Quokka; 19th February 2008 at 11:16 PM..

Re: Show us your instrument! ... Stop that, it's silly. Just thought I'd add another thought to above, as well as it being possible to solo on bass, isn't 'accompaniment' also a very general term? How I'd play accompanying something like a trumpet or a banjo would be very different to playing in a full rock band where there might be a lot more of standing in the back corner plucking the E string.

Re: Show us your instrument! ... Stop that, it's silly. As I said when I posted before I was really really keen to replace my bass and the local music store has just had a sale during an occassion about as rare as they come, namely me with some spare cash... and well I just couldn't help myself. It's a Ernie Ball MusicMan S.U.B. 5 and although it's still pretty much a low-middle range bass compared to the Samick it's just amazing. I may regret buying a 5 string at some point but so far I'm just loving this .

Re: Show us your instrument! ... Stop that, it's silly. Just a little more work keeping it quiet (as in muting) but that's why I thought I'd start practicing now. Gotta admit I do like this low b string, though I'm not too sure what my neighbours think of it so far .Btw nice piano Lioness.
