Re: Show us your instrument! ... Stop that, it's silly.

Putting this up more for the sympathy vote then to brag. Short scale bass that I'm just dying to replace but I'm also fighting the urge to replace it for as long as I can, I figure the longer I leave it the better chance I have of picking my next bass by how it sounds and plays rather then having to trust the salesman... besides the longer I leave it the more I can justify spending

There's also my tenor banjo, my wife got sick of it just sitting around so she's actually picked it up and started to play it herself.

Re: Show us your instrument! ... Stop that, it's silly.

Nice looking guitar, I'm thinking up taking up bass myself. I would love to buy a shiny new one but the odds of that are similar to odds of me being instantly promoted to executive director of my company

Nice to hear that your wife has taken up banjo playing too! I've taught mine a few songs on the guitar, but never got much further than Em, A, C, G and D.

Re: Show us your instrument! ... Stop that, it's silly.

It makes a decent enough sound for where I'm at at the moment and it seems to be damn near indestructable but I can't wait to upgrade, seeing as you get peanuts for second hand guitars I'll be keeping it so might be fun to pull out later just for a change. I was planning on getting it in the new year but I'm putting it back now a bit more so hopefully in another 2-3 months I'll be posting a pic of a nice shiny new 34" Bass

My wife used to play piano when she was younger so she has the theory side already, plus she's grown up listening to all the Irish tunes she's trying to play which is making it a lot easier for her to teach herself.

For me it's taking a bit longer, I managed to figure out the song do-re-mi the other day just by ear but it took awhile and a fairly patient teacher

Um, you do know the number of jokes about banjo players, dont you?

What's the best thing to play on a banjo?
A flame-thrower.

How can you get a banjo player's eyes to sparkle? Shine a light in her ears...

et cetera, et ceteraer, et ruddy ceterest.

Re: Show us your instrument! ... Stop that, it's silly.

But that's why I moved to bass Chris... the variety

Q: Did you hear about the drummer who locked his keys in his car?
A: It took him four hours to get the bass player out.

Q. If a drummer and a bass guitarist caught a cab, which one would be the musician?
A. The cab driver.

A man gives his son an electric bass for his 15th birthday, along with a coupon for four bass lessons. When the son returns from his first lesson, the father asks, ‘So, what did you learn?’
’Well, I learned the first five notes on the E string.’
Next week, after the second lesson, the father again asks about the progress, and the son replies, ‘this time I learned the first five notes on the A string.’

One week later, the son comes home far later than expected, smelling of cigarettes and beer. So the father asks, ‘hey, what happened in today's lesson?’

’Dad, I'm sorry but I couldn't make it to my lesson. I had a gig!

Oh, sure. I can do them for practically any musical instrument from piccolo to pipe organ, plus percussions.
But it still seems to me that banjo and slide trombone get the thin end of the wedge.

The one thing I noticed with the banjo was that if it ever came up that you played it there was always someone who would go di di ding ding etc to dueling banjos from Deliverance

Re: Show us your instrument! ... Stop that, it's silly.

I finally got round to taking photos and uploading them! So here they are:

Guitar - Fender Left-handed Electro-Acoustic

Trumpet - Yamaha 4335G Intermediate

Piano - Challen Cross-strung

No pictures of the Viledin. As for playing the instruments - I'm doing my Gr. 7 Trumpet exam in a few weeks (which is very good, for those who don't know), I'm a fair hand at tinkling on the ivories, and I'm learning how to play my Guitar, and have been for, oooooh, three years? Best investment of £250 ever!

Tucked away for ...I don't know. Never learned to play it, but don't want to get rid of it. And I must get round to cleaning it!

Re: Show us your instrument! ... Stop that, it's silly.

Well I'm a keyboard man at heart and would love a Piano,if only. Also a rack of synths would be nice.
For now this is my weapon of choice.

Yamaha PSR 225,bought for the authentic piano sound. Also used to have a Korg Poly 800 but had to leave it behind.

Re: Show us your instrument! ... Stop that, it's silly.

I still can't play guitar as well as I feel I should, and that's after 10 years of practice

Nice lefty guitar lenny, I'm left handed but I've never tried a guitar that way around, since with "right handed" guitars my left hand is doing all the work anyway

Re: Show us your instrument! ... Stop that, it's silly.

I started to learn on a righty quite a few years ago, and then stopped for some reason. The next guitar I picked up was a lefty, and it felt much more natural than a righty. I'm sticking with a left-handed guitar because the fingers on my right hand are very nimble and strong, thanks to nearly thirteen years of Cornet/Trumpet playing, so it makes sense to me to use my right hand for chords and pressing down strings.

Re: Show us your instrument! ... Stop that, it's silly.

Going back a post or two(can't do quotes from my phone) but I can never see the point of a bass guitar unless you're to be in a band. You can't play music on it,just accompaniment.
Same with drums really
