Hi all.

I just finished James Clavell's epic Shogun and was wondering if anybody knows of other fiction that represents Japan in that time period as well?

Well, there are a few titles in here that might help.

Japanese historical fiction

It might sound obvious , but... Taipan? (by the same author)

BTW did you know there was a mini-series based on Shogun? It's really quite good

I should have mentioned I've read the others by him.

I heard about the mini-series but never watched it. If I can get my hands on it I'll watch for sure.

You might as well read the rest of the Asia Saga to be honest, starting with as was all ready stated, Tai-Pan before moving on to Gai-Jin.

I have not gotten around to reading any of Clavell's books besides Shogun yet but some other stories of Japanese culture that I would recommend are:

Musashi by Eiji Yoshikawa (One of my all-time favorite books)
Taiko by Eiji Yoshikawa
Samurai William: The Englishman Who Opened Japan by Giles Milton (This is supposed to be more of the true story Shogun is based upon. I found it very interesting.)
The Last Samurai: Life and Battles of Saigo Takamori by Mark Ravina
The 47 Ronin Story translated by John Allyn
