wow its been ages since i've been here. anyways i'm just back from my trip to new york city and wow was that fantastic. something i've come to notice is that the quality of american book covers artwork is no where near as good as british covers. few examples i've noticed are the His Dark Materials trilogy where the british covers are fantastic, annother i noticed was the Age of five triolgy where again the british covers are alot better than the states. im not flaming but i'd like to know if anyone agrees with me and if they do have they ever seen any US covers which are better than the UK covers. Gill randomomising things up abit ![]()

Re: book covers Daniel Abraham's US covers are better than his UK ones: UK Omnibus Cover. Dull. US Cover for Book 1: Cool. US Cover for Book 2: Awesome. Erm. Otherwise that's it. Scott Lynch's US covers are pretty good but for the most part it's the Steven Erikson experience, where the UK covers are quite nifty and the US ones are horrific messes.

Re: book covers It all depends on who the artist is. I agree for the Steven Erikson books, the US covers are not very good (being tactful here). OTOH, there are some US covers that are really great, so it depends on the artist involved whether or not I like the UK covers or the US covers. As far as I'm concerned, anything by Michael Whelan is great. I also like Jody Lee's work.

Re: book covers Yeah. The uk publishers, used the australian covers for ian Irvines first quartet. Then they had different ones. I dont know whether this was because Ian designed the covers for the first quartet himself or....... No but for instance his new trilogy. His uk covers are a bit bland. Its basically just an amulet. But his Australian ones are Landscapes, stuff that was relevant to the books. It was the same for his second quartet
