Anyone else like to more races introduced into Ray's books? The only main races we have are the various Human societies, the Tsurani, Dasati, Eledhel and Moredhel, some Dwarves, some Saaur, Pantanthians and some Goblins.

When one considers the Hall of the Worlds and even the diferent races that drop in at Honest John's place, Ray has the vehicle to introduce more races; millions of planets to draw from, and the possibilities are endless. For that matter, he could even come up with a 'lost' race that's been living say, beyond the Teeth of the World on Midkemia.

On the surface it sounds like it would be fun and interesting, but I've always operated on the 'KISS' principle, and plots could get overentangled very quickly. As we have discussed, it's hard enough sometimes just to keep track of characters chronologically as is!

Two of the things that make Ray a better writer than many others, IMO, is one, the fact that his characters follow a chronological line. Years pass, people die, others replace them, etc. The other is that he doesn't get so hopelessly entangled in a plot that he can't find a satisfactory stopping place - resolve at least some of the conflict or whatever -before moving on to the next book.

The reason I stopped reading WOT (except in used paperback) about 5 yrs ago is because RJ seems to be writing just for the money, hauling out more and more characters, different races, etc, w/o giving the reader any resolution.

In one way the idea of introducing new races is appealing, but I'd hate to see Ray doing it just to throw words on paper. So far even with th longevity of the series, he hasn't caught 'Robert Jordan disease', as some fant fans are now calling it.

So... I really don't know... comments, anyone?

I agree totally Kulgan with everything you have just said. I would like to see a few more races introduced, but from Pug or someone else's point of view whilst visiting other planets. The Hall of Worlds is one of his greatest inventions, which bends Einstein's calculations so much! If we wants more, he has the tool to deliver it like you said. A lost race would be good but would it be a lost race or just a different species of a race we have already met? Like the 'wild elves'?

I suppose what i would really like is to see more races on Midkemia put into play. Especially Dwarves, who never seem to get a mention past Magician and a bit in RoaDK

I know where you're going, and with that I can totally agree! The Dwarves haven't gotten enough mention and haven't figured prominently in enough stories, and I too would like to see more of them, learn more of their history and culture, etc.

As I said elswhere, I'd also like to see more of the area of the Keshian Confederacy explored, particularly characters who come from the area where Nakor originally hails from. While he's given us a very good picture of Kesh, it's people and politics etc, he hasn't really developed the Confederacy very much at all, except to touch on the struggle between those peoples and Kesh itself.

There's still a lot going on on Midkemia that I'd like to know more about. I really do love that planet.

I would also like to explore down in the Keshian Confederacy as well. It just seems to get mentioned quite a lot, especially by the Keshian Nobles, and the fact that we haven't explored it makes it seem something akin to hidden treasure.

Now seeing the habitat that Nakor grew up it... that would be fun!

Once again we're on the same page. That's one ofthe main reasons I'd like to see a story set in the area around Dong Tai or Shing Lai - to explore Nakor's old hangouts. There are also some interesting places on the map down there, like the 'Watchmen' mountain range, and the 'Peaks of Torment' - interesting names... Ray needs to take us there one of these days.

There has been a lot of talk about the conflict between Kesh and the Lesser Confederacy too, and it'd be nice to see a prequel about that war. The possobilitiews ar endless, as long as our man lives long enuff and wants to keep writing.

One of his major acclaims to success is the link between all the elves. Knowing that they just the same race with different ideas or in different circumstances makes the suspense between them better than the old dwarf and elf conflicts.

I've been trying to find out the origin of the name Krondor. I know 'dor' in elvish is land, but still cannot find 'Kron'!

I would like to read more of the Hall about the worlds. The scope is endless and a book set in the halls could be the start of a spin off set in another world with totally different creatures. Maybe a world damaged by the dragon lords?

Now that is overflowing with possibilities. We have to remember that the author we love so well can only do so much tho, and at this point I don't know if he could (or would want to) handle a spinoff series, considering all that keeps happening with the Conclave.

I for one would love to see it tho. Maybe get it started in collaboration with another good author who could keep the ball rolling by doing the majority of the writing...

Note on the Thun. If they can hold off the Tsurani, then they must be very powerful. If the Tsurani could get a truce, which is a million to one chance, then they would be very good allies.

And an alliance between Tsuranni, Cho-Ja and Thun would be an almost unbeatable army.
