Best Drummer?

Hope this hasn't been done before but knew we'd had a best guitarist thingymebob and though it was time to get a bit of drum discussion going on.

IMHO
1 - Thomas Haake - Meshuggah King of Polyrhythms
Then, in no particular order:
Mike Portnay - Dream Theatre
Danny Carey - Tool
Gavin Harrison - Porcupine Tree

So yeah, what's everyone else think?

Heh... chances are, if you asked all those guys who the best drummer was, they'd all say Neil Peart from Rush.

Re: Best Drummer?

Neil Peart's good, yeah. I remember in the early 80s he was always voted best drummer in the annual Sounds readers poll.

He still tops a lot of Best Drummer polls, especially when voted for by other drummers... probably because he is actually the best drummer. ever.

Here's some proof - one from his day job & a fantastic Buddy Rich tribute.
