Re: Best Drummer? Dave Abbruzzese, the former drummer of Pearl Jam. That guy has energy. I remember reading once that a professional level drummer quipped that it was just too hard to match what Abbruzzese had laid down on a consistent basis and did not stay in the band for long.

Re: Best Drummer? Listen to Haake. Neil Peart solo's better but Meshuggah's standard drum parts in songs (New Millenium Cyanide Christ) rock my world and it's not speed - it's polyrhythms still with fast footwork. Carrey is rapid though but Peart prolly kicks both due to greater complexity, and being him! Yeah I'd take Clapton over either but.... Or Frusciante - a musical soul.

Re: Best Drummer? Just listened to 'New Millennium Cyanide Christ' and i totally agree. Peart is the better drummer overall but that really steady beat works really well with the guitars. Thank you Woody, for introducing me to a new band!

Re: Best Drummer? Puts in a vote for Billy Cobham – nice guy, and, since he basically lives in Switzerland, someone I've worked with frequently. Wide range of styles, inovative and (wonder of wonders) knows how to play quietly.

Re: Best Drummer? I second the mentions of Tomas Haake, Dave Lombardo, and Martin Lopez. And of course Neil Peart, it goes without saying. I'd like to put in a good word for Brann Dailor of Mastodon. Very much Peart-inspired, especially the snare work; he hardly ever just plays a straight beat. It adds so much to the music.
