Question of Pages Does anyone have a general idea how many pages one word document equals to a paperback size? I want to get general number of pages I have written and was wondering if anyone has a formula or rule to work it out.

Re: Question of Pages Eighty thousand is fairly short by today's standards. Not that I'm saying that's a bad thing, mind. Lately I've been gravitating towards the slimmer volumes...

Re: Question of Pages It might be 80,000. I tend to write and then type. I have just under 70,000 now and I guess I have written another 10,000. It might be more, it might be less.

Re: Question of Pages I think it's different in the States (about 100 000 words in Fantasy), the UK (longer manuscripts) and now, you say there's a different trend in Aussieland. But I saw debut (!) novels much longer than that (in the UK). The wordcount hovered at 500 000 in one case, but it must be the exception.

Re: Question of Pages I'd imagine the standard fantasy novel these days would clock in at around one eighty - two hundred thousand, if not more. I've heard one twenty as the figure quoted for the bottom end of publishable manuscripts, but I'm not sure there's a hard and fast rule. Those members with actual publishing experience would know a lot more about these matters, and I'm sure they'll chime in sooner or later. I'd take my ramblings with a grain of salt until such a time...
