New Doctor?

Simm to replace Tennant in Doctor Who?

Sunday, November 11 2007, 15:07 GMT

By Ben Rawson-Jones, Cult Editor

John Simm will reportedly take over the role of The Doctor from David Tennant, playing the eleventh incarnation of the popular Time Lord.

The News of the World claims that the deal has been signed, with the former Life on Mars star to play the coveted role in the fifth season due to be screened in 2010. The tabloid cites a BBC insider as saying: "John is absolutely over the moon. He's got a six-year-old son who is a massive Doctor Who fan and he can't believe his dad is going to fly the Tardis at work."

Simm appeared in the final three episodes of the third season of Doctor Who earlier this year in a different role - as evil Time Lord The Master.

The BBC has since told Digital Spy that the News of the World story is untrue.

Ah well, it was worth the thought!

Re: New Doctor?

Aye...He might have done alright, y'know......

Thing is, you know as soon as it's said it's false...He refused to do another series of Life On Mars 'cause it was 6 months away from his boy...Dr Who is more like 9 months...In Cardiff...

Definately would have been interesting...

It's not a new Doctor they need. It's a new scriptwriter.

Ouch! Harsh, but true.

Damn right. Hopefully the next time they won't try mixing in Flash Gordon/Star Wars/Harry Potter ripoffs, all marinated in undesired mirth. The Doctor floating through the cage was equally parts cringeworthy and hilarious.

God No! It's actually been boycotted by me (along with The Sun newspaper and most tabloids), it hasn't been allowed to enter this house or be bought by a member of my family for rather a few years... since the murders of the two girls by Ian Hunter (I was very against the way they handled it)

This little snippet was picked up from Digital Spy...

I might not buy the NotW but I still like a bit of gossip!!!

Re: New Doctor?

I said this might happen in an earlier thread. I hope he doesn't ham it up as much as he did with the Master but I think he's a great choice and it makes a brilliant twist. I think this Tennent would be a hard act to follow but who knows.

I never could resist the opportunity for a bit of pedantry. Ian Huntley is the infamous child murderer. Ian Hunter was lead singer of that great band, Mott The Hoople. Just thought I'd clear that up .... and prevent anyone being sued for libel!!

I'm normally the one being pedantic so I fully appreciate your correction! Thank you!

Re: New Doctor?

I agree the tabloids news about Doc Who is, quite frankly, drivel!

But I would venture to say most of the content of these so called news papers is complete drivel, about everything and everyone.

Re: New Doctor?

Shame - Simm would have made a perfect Dr. I actually liked his hamminess as the Master and he can play understated with his hands tied behind his back when he wants to - Life on Mars & Crime & Punishment are evidence of that.

NO CHANCE! David Tennant is class. My best friend would probably die (she's a huge David fan ). I don't think, after his spin as the Master, that he would fit into the role; everyone remembers him as the Master, so it seems wrong that he should be the Doctor.

Re: New Doctor?

We've seen a couple of actors move role, but from the Master to the Doctor is a bit of a leap, even for RTD...
