Re: The Elder Gods Hey, there are lots of times I say or do things without a hint of a smile. That doesn't mean I am a rehash of David Eddings characters! I actually thought that this newest series was far superior to Sparhawk and co stories. Really looking forward to fourth installment. Until Polgara and Durnik reveal the sexes of their twins, Make Mine Eddings.

Re: The Elder Gods It doesn't mean that he has to write "without a hint of a smile" every time, and he could at least try to come up with some new phrases! Why did you prefer this to the other series? You're the first I've seen who thinks that - to me this was a novel almost indistinguishable from all the previous series - except it was worse written and more childish generally.

Re: The Elder Gods Well, I just found this thread a few days after I finished reading the Elder Gods series. It wasn't too bad, but it reminded me too much of everything else Eddings' has written, and the ending was a bit of a letdown for me. Not a very complicated read, and not without its' faults, but not too bad.

Re: The Elder Gods I felt a bit confused by the dreamer books too; I know there were the odd 'cutesy' moments in Eddings' previous works, but it seems to be constant in elder gods(?). I think I'm going to have to go back and reread the belgariad et al to see if my brain has just changed my memories of those books to suit what I like now.

Re: The Elder Gods I found this series a little hard to get into, tenaciously I read them though and thought that they were so so until the ending and then I felt like what was the point, to write 4 books then end it like that.

Re: The Elder Gods That same thought occurred to me - what was the point of writing the series if the ending was going to basically render it useless? Looking back on it, I can't help but think that this is the weakest of all of Eddings' series.

Re: The Elder Gods When I read that ending I felt that I was ripped off, buying the books and then spending the time reading them and then end it as though the all what had been written was basically erased. What was the point of writing it to have it end that way?

Re: The Elder Gods Perhaps it would have worked better like that. I think that there was so much room for other things, like what about the other lands, those story lines could have been explored better. There was so much lacking from the dreamer series. oh well.

Re: The Elder Gods Bobby Ewing 1986 year of the "Dream" in dalls was a much better plot gov... without giving the ending away to anybody still doggedlt determined to read it all I'll say is that the preceeding 3 books become redundant and useless - more than that it just makes you feel totaly let down wondering why you even bothered. A nice example of this would be http://www.howitshouldhaveended.com/Divx%20links/LOTR.html as an example of how pointless the book could have been if Tolkien had used the same device.

Re: The Elder Gods Agreed with many who have expressed dissatisfaction with the ending. About the only redeeming thing for me was that I really like his gods and how he handles and portrays them. Even if they are vaguely familiar to characters, gods and otherwise, in other of his books. I'm certainly not as fond of his human characters as a whole in this series. And the ending, I ranted about for days with some friends.
