I was just thinking a bit nonsense during a boring class... How large is Minas Tirith, you think, and how many inhabitants should it have?

Well, it was origanly called Minas Anor, before the Third Age, so that name might have some hints under it. As for size of population I know Gandaulf says that it is underpopulated and I think that he gives an indecation of how many the city can hold. As for size, all I have is that the upper section of the city was at around 700 feet high - I assume this to be the large outcropping of rock in the centre of the town. Also remember that the town was built into the mountain aswell

I would say it could hold a good fifty thousand or more, but as you said it was very underpopulated. Although my estimate is possibly wrong by a mile!
