Podcast Recommendations

After becoming tired of all my music, I learned the real reason to have an ipod was the podcasts (I think some casts can be played on other devices). Of course the problem becomes finding the good ones in the sea of anybody-can-do-it. Here are some of my faves and I’d like to hear about ya’ll have found out there that is worth checking out.

-Slice of Sci-fi: News and Interviews about Sci-fi, Fantasy, comics etc. with a focus on TV and Movies. They also have a voicemail show that’s fun to call in and try to get on the cast.

-Astronomy Cast: Here is a great two person team discussing our current understanding of the universe that isn’t overly technical but doesn’t dumb it down too much either. Many astronomy or Nasa podcasts seem to be geared toward grammar school children.

-Escape Pod: Science fiction short stories read. Show has a great selection and variety of stories. One of my favorite stories on the show was about a talking toothbrush that wanted to expand its program to become a milk frother. If you don’t like one story chances are you’ll like the next one. This group is also working on a podcast called Podcastle that will focus on fantasy.

-Skeptics guide to the Universe: This one is a rational answer to all the big foot, UFO, Loch Ness monster, conspiracy theorist, “alternative” medicine hokum-woo nonsense. Even though I’m a skeptic I thought the show might get old but they do enough discussion and celebration about real science and the wonder involved to keep it interesting and fun.

Those are the 4 that I really wouldn’t want to be without. Still looking for good medieval history cast. Nasa also has several nice video podcasts that are nice to check on. Let me know if you have found any good ones!
