The pain of a Painless warrior

OK I have seen one episode of Grey's Anatomy I think about a girl who stapled herself as she could not feel pain...... sad...

It inspired me to create a painless warrior character for my tale. But I wish to know what should a Painless warrior look out for if he is to make sure his affliction won't kill him..... He is a cyborg by the way.

Bits of himself scattered over the flooor and oozing blood would be a promising initial sign that all was not well.

Joking aside, I suppose it depends how cyborg he is. I'm no expert on cyborgs in fiction (or even those in real life), but I suppose he might be equipped with the equivalent of a car computer which tells you when the oil is low or the battery is failing to recharge. Doesn't this happen with the Terminator?

Bladerunner style cyborgs probablly have to check themselves a la Thomas Covenant in the Steven Donaldson books.

Regards,

Peter

Re: The pain of a Painless warrior

if he feels no pain, how does he register injury?

people who do not feel pain often have complications like infection or serious bleeding because they feel no pain.

Re: The pain of a Painless warrior

My father suffered brain damage. As a result, he can't feel pain or heat in his hands. One day, he put his hand on a burner that was on high. He realized there was a problem when he smelt burnt flesh - that was his first clue.

Just one example of how things can go wrong.

Re: The pain of a Painless warrior

OH Dear.... I feel so sorry for your dad..... It must be horrible, can't they reconnect the nerves via stem cells?

Ok back to General Indolore Indolore= Painless in French
Ah maybe his arms are bony with black flesh on them so this is the part that doesn't feel pain. And there is partially gangrenic flesh at from navel on wards.. His legs definitely are robotic....

His face definitely have signs of gangrenic flesh too!

With him having gangrene (which, how did he get gangrene so badly? In an age where they have cybernetics, they would be able to cure rotting flesh, or at least replace it...or mabye he can't go to the hospitals and has to rely on back alley doctors) and not feeling any pain, even a small, non-vital wound could become infected and kill him. Trust me, lots of diabetics who can't feel their toes wind up losing one or two of them from something as simple as a sliver.

And where did he get gangrene? I'd be more inclined to believe it if it was about some form of highly advanced leprosy rather than something as simple as gangrene.

He is actually more vulnerable because he does not feel pain. You and I aren't likely to die because a scrap on our hand became infected, but someone who never knew that scrape was there, never washed it or bandaged it, would be very likely to get a bad infection. Pain is necessary because it lets you know when something is not functioning properly. Even cyborgs, who register an injury, could be said to feel pain. They just ignore it.

Re: The pain of a Painless warrior

OK because of some pro-eugenics in 202X India, General Indolore who was once a member of the govt gets bombed by killers hired by his opponents......

Cause he is a diabetic his wounds deal to his limbs and face did not heal properly, since he was nursed by a woman[she later became his wife] in a rural area.

Later the doctor, Dr. Einstein, who gave him his cybernetics removed his gangrenic tissue off his legs and hands.....

Yah that's his story, a man who became the "butcher" of designer humans whom he calls "farm animals"

No, it's brain damage. The nerves themselves are fine. It would take regenerating those portions of the brain that are damaged, and that technology is a long long long way away.
