Re: Death scenes.

I have to say Jaim for the same reasons Fralin said.

Quote:
In his death he epitomizes all heroic qualities that all people strive for. In my opinion it only beats Bisons because even the bad guys don't want to kill Jaim because of his heroic actions.

Re: Death scenes.

I went with Druss, the most memorable for me (as was his funeral)

Re: Death scenes.

I met D.Gemmell. He said it was 'tough out there.' Prior to that he had just recounted the tale of how Druss came into being, who he was based on, and how it actual got into print.

It was a happy, but determined coincidence; given the vitriolic reply, and rejection of the first submissions.

So given all that, Druss the Legend does it for me.

Re: Death scenes.

Ravenheart was the first Gemmell I ever read and it still makes me cry every time, so its got to be Jaim. I actually fell in love with him, and when he died I was sitting there going 'noooooo', and when I re read it, even though I know it's coming, it still surprises me every time.

Re: Death scenes.

I think Jarek Mace riding into battle (knowing he would not return) is my fav with Druss comming in very close second.
many other heros knew they might die in battle (whither they cared is neither here nor there as they enjoyed the risk)
Jarek Mace on the other hand did not enjoy battle, was not a hero and loved life to excess, he enjoyed life and the satisfaction it provided.

{No death is as great, as one that saves a nation}

Re: Death scenes.

Anmd what about poor YuYu in Her in the Shadows? A bit of a daft idiot fighting the demons and giving his live to save the world?
And of course Pagan.
But on the given list i said Beltzer. Gave his live and took 19 nadir with him to save his friends. In the end they honoured him by placing his weapon back in his hand, instead of chopping him up as per usual.

Re: Death scenes.

One of the most beautiful and moving death scenes was the Riamdada.

He was not a fighter as he was borned a cripple. He was a gifted metal worker, and befriended by Connavar.

He did not die in battles or betrayed by enemies. At the point of his death, he was surrounded by friends but who did not know that it was time for him to go.

Only those who had the sight saw his magical transformation and his final liberation.

Warmest regards

Shanlung

Re: Death scenes.

When i read of Bison jumping of the cliff with two enemys in either arm it made me cry, he was a true hero in that moment and it was so sad his was the best death in my opinion

Re: Death scenes.

The problem with this question is that DG wrote about some truely heroic characters who were willing to give up thier lives to help defeat evil, so it's tough to pick just one character, but as LEGEND was my first DG book then I've just got to go with Druss.
