Something Clever

It was taking too long to come up with an attention grabbing thread title but I finally came up with something clever.

I came across your forum while looking for intelligent life and decided this will do. You guys have a great community here, and you seem like a real diamond in the rough.

So on with the introduction, yes?

I'm 29 years old, originally from Shreveport, LA, and am now in Dallas, TX. If you know anything about either city you'll understand why I got into fantasy and science fiction at an early age. I've been a fan of just about every genre of fantasy but I tend to gravitate towards Tolkien'esk material. You know ornery dwarfs, pretentious Elves, and wizards that speak in riddles.

I spend most of my time these days working and spending time with my g/f, her three year old daughter, and my four year daughter (it's a madhouse), but when I am relaxing it is usually in front of a game of War Craft 3, watching LOTR for the tenth time, reading a book my g/f says I just have to read, or watching terrible zombie flicks.

I did some fantasy writing as a teen but my grammar/spelling is lacking, and I always tended to gravitate too much toward battle. I collected pewter minis as a kid, and would set battle scenes up, and yes...I'll admit it, took pictures of the different angles, scenarios, etc. basically my own little LOTR, choose your own adventure, D&D meets Braveheart photo shoot. Funny, I haven't thought about that for years. I digress.

I have a lot of 'spare time' at work and look forward to killing it here as opposed to the other forums I've tried to frequent.

Thanks for having me.

LoL, It is an old FFXI screen name. It actually means black in elvish at least according to a 'elvish tranlator' I came across while looking for a s/n. Then again it could be English for; Air*ren *der meaning geek with too much time on his hands.

As bad at it as I am I can argue with the best of them.

Just fore warning my mom said I should have been a lawyer, I have yet to forgive her for saying that but in my older age I can see where she was going with that. I can't sale an ice maker to an eskimo but I can convince him it is a heater, or least argue with him about it until he buys it to get rid of me.

Re: Something Clever

Hi, Airendir!

WELCOME to the most funnistic (and faunistic) place of all.

I am an Italian in Paris.

It's been only two weeks and they already think I coul have stayed away, doesn't matter where, just somewhere else.

Beware of the Dutchie, he just pretends he's not serious (but he likes microscopic sea thingies).

Please, do come argue with Chris (and me.... come on! ).

He's very gentle, and so am I...

We'll wait for you in the Critique section. Don't listen to the others, we don't use any pointy thing to dissect our fellows' texts (we only use blunt swords the Chron's Scottish armies recuperate on the battlefields ).

Comparing the locations of our welcoming committee with the statistical spread of the membership it would appear that those on the fringes are the most eager to see new faces.
Just a minute - two koalas? This is getting out of paw. I'll need more eucaliptus.
Intelligence? As long as that's not in the military sense, you've got a fair chance of tripping over some, but as it's unfettered by reason or discipline, it might be somewhat difficult to communicate with (squares of the first hundred prime numbers? You'd do better with the lengths of the corridors in the mines of Moria)
I dislike LA (one has to go there, I know, but not often and can't think of much good about Dallas. Have you considered that your taste in living environments might be a little questionable? Never mind, you're here now, and I hope you've taken a good look at your kids, because the next time you communicate with them could well be when they log on to see what you're doing; or at their respective weddings (even Chronoids are expected to log off for offspring's weddings or funerals); you could always post a picture of them, to remind you…
Welcome in. I don't guarantee the intelligence or sanity of the conversation, but like the tea it's warm and it's fresh.

Well helloooo. Nice to welcome you to the Chrons (I think). See you around the corridors - if you live that long! Just watch your feet and feel your way round corners!

Re: Something Clever

Welcome, Aerandir. Diamond in the rough describes this place pretty well; and it gets pretty rough out there...

Funny, Giovanna and I were just discussing such scenario expansionism in my own welcome thread (I'm new here, too). You're not alone!

So, you play FFXI? As you might have guessed already, I am a huge fan of the FF series, although I haven't played the MMORPG.

Anyway, I hope you like it here. I consider myself fortunate to have stumbled through the door...I can't seem to remember where the exit was...

Two koalas? Where?

And do I point out the Grammarian's misspelling of "eucalyptus"? No, I'm not that cruel.

Welcome and hello, Aerandir!

I'm gonna pronounce your name "air-an-deer", whether that's right or wrong.

Welcome to the madhouse! You seem like the type who fits in well (no, I'm not referring to your sanity AT ALL!). Once you come here you're lost, so I'm sorry to be the one to tell you you're now classified as "missing" in the Real World. A sad loss indeed.

But fear not! We'll look after you. Come, drown your sorrows in the Quiet Room, forget all about this thing called life.

Life? Pah! Who needs it anyway?

Re: Something Clever

LoL, thanks for the warm welcome.

I did play FFXI for nearly two years till my PS2 crapped out on me. It is highly addictive. I would not reccomend it to anyone that doesn't have hours on end to kill. I never got into WoW because I knew I would end up neglecting something or someone somewhere down the road.

"air-an-deer" will work. Der, Deer w/e melts your butter.

Welcome, Aerandir!

Don't believe them, any of them. This is a quiet, respectable forum, devoted to the contemplation of the written word, as used in Scientifiction, and other arcane subjects.

Ace, why are Freda the giant spider, and Algy the eight-foot tall mutant hamster squabbling in the corner of the patio?

Re: Something Clever

Algy decided to investigate Freda's nest. It'll calm down in a minute.
