Inner/outer circles?

Hey everyone, i am trying to remember the name of a book I read in middle school it was about a game where this boy had to move from inner circles to outer circles or the other way around. Once he started playing the game things started happening in real life. I remember it being a little dark, but i was young so who knows. It wasn't really like Jumangi but there were wizards and knights and stuff in it. Any ideas?? let me know
