Confused

I usually catch on to things in Midkemia pretty quick but i have read Shadow of a Dark Queen many times and still don't understand how the Pantathians betrayed the Saaur. Can anyone help?

Hey Vencar

Basically the Pantathians betrayed the Saaur by using them as their muscle to destroy the Kingdom, so they could get to the Lifestone that is situated in Sethanon and release the power in the stone in their mistaken belief that their Goddess would be released. Remember their Goddess was one of the Dragon Lords(can't remember which one) and being a death cult the Pantathains weren't to worried if they died along with everyone else.

Thanks AliOne. But then another question comes to mind; how then in your explanation did the Saaur on their homeworld know about the Lifestone? Or maybe its just me not understanding still.

There were no Saaur left on the homeworld as the demons killed them all...the Saaur did not know about the lifestone at all, it was the Pantathians who knew about it and they were originally from Midkemia....

*Edit The Dragon Lord who created the Pantathians was called Alma-Lodaka....*

Not sure as I havent read it in a while but at a guess the Saaur just wanted to invade and take the land wheras the serpents wanted to use them to kill everyone so they could get to the lifestone

Pretty much as I read it, the Saaur are a nomadic race and needed a lot of space to live, so when the Emerald Queen recruited them, or when the Pantathians forced them into the army (as they were Pantathian slaves) they were promised all the land they needed, once they were released from their slavery.

They betrayed them because the Saaur thought that their cousins were giving them refuge. Where in fact they were still a death cult dedicated to their goddess so would use those Saaur who had escaped in their cause.

That's why the king of the Saar felt betrayed and killed that Pantathian when he revealed that he wanted to die in the service of his goddess.

KagLover has the right of it. I believe they also thought the serpent men would lead them back to the Palace of Alma-Lodaka where she still resided. The pantathians action proved this was not the case otherwise he would not want to die!
