Service Providers!

I almost posted this one in humor, well today it seems humorous but it didn't at the time.

Because I am moving in just over a week, I rang my telephone and internet provider to cancel my service. I told her to cancel it on the 21.09.07 which is the day we move. The following night I arrived home from work, no telephone service and of course no internet service.

So using my mobile. some twenty minutes later, it drops out, went next door to my neighbours, another 20 minutes later, I sort things out to be told the phone should be back on by morning but the internet will take at least three days. Fair enough!!

About an hour and a half later my phone rings, ya the service is back and the following day the internet had also been restored.

Now the interesting thing to come out of this is that if they can reconnect your services so fast how come we wait up to ten days to get the internet connected when you first apply for it, sometimes even longer?

Needless to say I am not ringing my electricity supplier until the day before I move, just in case!!!!

As I said I can laugh about it now, but at the time

So does anyone else have interesting, good or bad service provider stories?

Ha!

My foster kid made our phone bill over a grand.

It took me 2 months to pay it.

Then they shut off my everything.

I called them.

It took 7 days to reconnect.

Yeah. Dumbbutts.

Re: Service Providers!

This isn't much of a story, but...

Yesterday my phone, TV and internet connection were off for about sixteen hours. I've no idea why, but it was very annoying.

Re: Service Providers!

When I moved here, I contacted my provider for 'phone and TV to tell them when and where I was moving. Within an hour of moving in, my phone and cable TV (including an extension in my bedroom) were connected free of charge.

Re: Service Providers!

My service/phone provider keeps sending door to door salesmen to our house trying to sell us on their fiber optic network, which we already have. We've had it for months. At least they always seem embarrassed when we tell them.

Re: Service Providers!

We were able to lose our home phone as we no longer need it for the internet, which is supplied by the same company that does our tv feed. Both our mobiles are on capped plans so we're saving quite a bit of money, enough to get pay tv and still be ahead.

Mind you it was a nightmare to actually get it installed, twice I rang up and was told everything was sorted and they will be in contact to install it within a few days, nothing happened so I ring back a week later.... "sorry there's no record of you ever contacting us" and so start all over again. Then we were delayed for another few weeks because the person we were dealing with was off sick and of course no one else could help because the paperwork was in her office somewhere .

A couple of months into the service and after rining up a few times for the internet being disconnected or just slow and freezing up, they told me I could get someone out on the basis that if they find something they pay for them, if not we get the bill. Fair enough and when the electrician came out he couldnt believe how bad our job was, apparently they had been cleaning up the jobs from this one guy for awhile now.

Oops sorry for the longish rant and I have to say since then the internet's been flying and the phone help are always suprisingly good.

Re: Service Providers!

Lol in Belgium it's the other way around. They connect you extremely fast, cancelling however... They just keep sending you bills, which you shouldn't pay of course. Then they threaten to cut the line if you don't pay. Which is funny since you're already living somewhere else.

I suggest keeping house phone on in case there is an emergency and someone (like kids or parents) needs to call collect, since as far as I know you can't place a collect call to a cell phone. The extra piece of mind is worth 12 bucks a month for the most basic service, IMO. Not likely something that will ever happen, but you never know for sure.

Re: Service Providers!

I know and even without emergencies there's the phone gone flat or just left in the car, but it seemed no matter what we did it was more $50-60 and that plus getting our mobiles sorted has made a big difference, if someone really needs us there's family nearby who can find us.

Re: Service Providers!

Actually, I keep getting calls from India (about 2 a day) wanting to connect me to everything including the kitchen sink. The only thing I need from them, they can't provide, no matter how many times I ask them: A good curry recipe!
