| Third time's a charm Quote:
First time I logged in, right after I registered, just before I was rushing off to work. I worked in a bookstore then. Second time I introduced myself I was sure I would become more active and somehow, something got in the way. Must have been my job change. (How I ever thought that selling mortgages would be a worthwhile follow up to selling books... ) So now, third introduction. After all, I am still kinda new. After all these years. I remember when the forum was just one page long without any subforums... These new fangled things. Yes, I took my nick from the books of GRR Martin, ASOIAF. I love gritty low fantasy more than lofty high fantasy. I have read LotR once. But I think I like scifi slightly better than most fantasy. Now, time to re-acquaint myself with the forums. Where to start again, after this...?

| Re: Third time's a charm There's considerable choice for starting (dare I suggest more than when it was just one page?) and it rather depends on how you're intending to go on. It's become difficult if not impossible to follow all the action (well, possibly this is due to my long posts and slow typing) but it doesn't take that long to keep up with two or three departments (unless one of them is critiques, and you do) So, what interests you? The SF specialists are less numerous than the fantasy fans, but there are a number of omnivores, so even an SF thread can multiply rapidly. Do try and concentrate this time, won't you? I can't even remember if I welcomed you last time, but eighteen months between posts means you've got lots of back posts to catch up on: we're heading for the million (the density patterns of posting as we approach the mystic number are going to be interesting) so I'd say you've got several hundred thousand to check - so what are you doing reading this rubbish? Are you still in the Netherlands? There's quite a sizable contingent in that small, soon to be submerged territory, now, and several of them are beating your "below measurable frequency of posts" by a considerable margin. Anyway, welcome back - you didn't think escaping was going to be that easy, did you? Any favorite SF authors you're intending to enter into communication about? |

| Re: Third time's a charm Welcome back, petite Hollandaise! I'm new too, and I'm not French (in spite of what my carte d'identité says) even if I have been living in Paris for the last twenty years. Now you're gonna stay, aren't you? Personally, I find the Forum, and the sub-Fori, addictive. Is that the reason why you sailed away, piccola olandese? ![]() |

| Re: Third time's a charm Chris makes a great deal of sense, It's best to re-read the post with your eyes shut, imagining what is should say, then read again reading what it does say. The difference is relative and we all know that that means.... Welcome to the back Daenary's (how d'ye pronounce that btw? When reading I just think of it as dwwwww. This being what I do with all unpronouncable names). I'm not sure if anything has changed after all...... I'm relatively new with no concentration, so whadda I know. Giovanna isn't olandese some kind of sauce? Which we shouldn't really give to honoured members such as Marquis Chrispyen, it just isn't the done thing and all that. I'd start in the quiet room, where the merits of various bacon sandwiches can be discussed in a civilised fashion over a cuppa tea. then move towards aspiring writers including all variant and vagrant sub-forums. Then browse about pick at random and stay in touch! But then thats you, no sorry thats ME you make your own mind up, A bit like beds really I spose. Ah, enjoy third time lucky an all that. Jez. |

| Re: Third time's a charm The Dutch, a sizeable continent? sorry, misread that. I'm from Holland BTW,so WELKOM. Except for being hungry late at night,I don't have any peculiarities to speak of. I am here a lot,so the Dutch presence here shouldn't be overrated. i just spam the place. there are worse ways to spend your time than being here. Some are very bad, like TV. people shouldn't stare so much at a fluorescent screen showing nonsense which i why you shouldn't read anything I post. It' s bad for your eyes, your mental health, and your social life. My mental health is excellent,a fact which I tend to camouflage. I love camouflage, decoys, feints, sleights of hand, trickery japery, buffoonery, lampooning, satire, irony, sarcasm, double entendres ,puns, limericks, innuendo in general, trompes de l'oeils, cartoons, imitation, prestidigitation, ventri loquism, dancing on ice, the Today Show, the Tonight Show, the Tomorrow Show,The Yesterday show,Bin Laden videos(great CGI),Chris Penycate introductions, icecream, houses with thatched roofs, hedgehogs, football,Leisha, everybody else here, Jack Gaughan or John Schoenherr covers, anything by Freas not for Laser Books,Hannes Bok,Virgil Finlay,Edd Cartier,Mel Hunter Chesley Bonestell,Ed Emshwiller and a lot of authors |

Is Daenerys reminiscent of ASoIaF? Danaerys is the name of a princess in George R.R. Martin A Song of Ice and Fire. D. has lost her realm, but she tries to get it back with the help of baby-dragons. Forgive them, piccola Hollandaise. Quote:
Piccola olandese only means "little Dutch girl". In Italian, you don't capitalise nationalities. The reference to the sauce is fortuitous (imprévu, in French). For the connaisseurs, I'll give the definition of the olandese sauce, though: "Deliziosa salsa a base di uova e burro per accompagnare pollo o pesce lesso o verdure o legumi."

| Re: Third time's a charm Hi, multilingual HSF, Lesso means "boiled", syn: bollito. It's a sauce for boiled fish and veggies... delicious. I would pronounce "Danaerys": Dah-nï-ris. What will the concerned person suggest? |
