Book Blurb

I liked Spectrum's idea of the back blurb, makes you focus on the story so thought I would jot one down for first draft of The Beautiful Child.

See what you think, I know there will be a specific style, but I have found this useful as an exercise, and it gives you folks an idea of what I am writing about.

Oh really unsure about the Last Dance of Magic as a series title, very much working title.

The Last Dance of Magic

The Beautiful Child

Religious prophecies abounded about the return of the comet, but none had predicted the return of magic. It is a surprising result that shifts power away from the Lanzian and Shafal faiths and brings in change and confusion.

In the Crescent, the cult of the Goddess and her followers are brought back from the verge of annihilation. For a brief instant a young leader, Jeel Keera emerges, sweeping change across the continent. He unites contesting tribes and creates a powerful alliance with Felitia, the Godless trading nation. But with his assassination, the fragile appeal of his vision starts to collapse.

Felitia attempts to hold the balance of power, riding above the religious antagonisms that divide other groups. But thirty years after the comet landed, the older powers have begun to deal with their changed circumstances. They have begun to use magic themselves and with new found zeal they embark on campaigns to regain lost influence and territories.

In so doing they unearth new enemies, amongst them the hidden children of Jeel Keera.

Forced into hiding after their father's assassination, their re-appearance sends shockwaves across the world and religious and political leaders alike seek to use them. As pawns in a growing struggle for power, his offspring must find people they trust, while they themselves discover the exact nature of the legacy their father has left them. And as they do they begin to understand that it may not have been his enemies who had him killed.

Re: Book Blurb

Okay I'd certainly have a Gander based on this, and it's the Blurb that sell me a book, as well as recomendations. So

Religious prophecies abounded about the return of the comet, but none had predicted the return of magic. It is a surprising result that shifts power away from the Lanzian and Shafal faiths and brings in change and confusion.

This is the only bit I'm not too sure about.
How about: As the shockwaves reverberate around the world, the Lanzian and Shafal fiaths suffer a spectacular fall from power. In this climate change and confusion are the only remaining certainties/constants.

This sentance just hit me, as.... I dunno just not as good as the rest so I'd take a look at that.

Great stuff,
Cheers, Jez.

Re: Book Blurb

It's good to get a sense of what your story is about, and as I said in the other thread I would like to read more.

this jarred with me too.
With it's return, the balance of power shifts from the Lanzian and Shafal faiths and change and confusion trail in it's wake...
Wriring a concise "blurb" is darn hard, isn't it? I think you've done a pretty good job here ~ as long as you can throw in a few guys with hairy chests, I'd certainly take a look
