My first observation is that this place is very extensive. I couldn't decide where to go first. Seems appropriate to introduce myself first, anyway.

I am a 27-year-old fantasy writer from Dundee, Scotland. I've not had anything published as yet (nor have I had anything rejected...have I done anything? You bet, but anyway, I'm guessing I'll be far from alone here). I have been working on my world, characters and story structures for the best part of ten years now, but I feel there'll be a few more passing before I'm ready to let anyone take the knife to it...

Anyway, enough about me. I'm here. Hello to you.

SpaceShip, I will certainly consider it. I'm rather...wary...of putting anything online that relates to the main story structure of the novels (pah, what novels?), but I'm sure that writing something short set somewhere in the same world would be a good exercise for me. Heaven knows the world is big enough, temporally and spatially; it's about time there was a bit more actual narrative writing going on.

Hopefully it will not be chronic.

I read something good in the critiques thread earlier on. Maybe I will be inspired...

Ten years shows my anal, aspirational perfectionism and constant failure to meet the high standards I set for myself. That, and the construction of a world of ridiculous, mind-numbing complexity, much of which serves no purpose to the story and exists purely because of my love of doing it.

It has to be original,funny,yet with profound undertones,moving,but not melodramatic,zesty,but not overbearing,not overly political,but not eschewing major issues,either,it must be airy,yet solidly rooted,classical with an innovative tenor,it has to rock,but here ought to be jazzy improvisation in it,it has to be cosmopolitan and global,yet shouldn't tread on the feelings of the indigenous peoples of the world
