Favourite word?

After seeing this on the BBC website, it got me thinking about what my favourite word is.

BBC NEWS | Education | Word search for global schooling

I guess it changes from day to day, but I've always been fond of the word flabbergasted. I just like the way it sounds.

Anyone else got a favourite word?

Perspicacity is going around in my head alot. Probably from Lisa Simpson saying "I'm losing my perspicacity!"

I like amalgamate!

And spoon.

And perpetual.

There's one word that I really can't stand...there's just something about it...tummy. ACK! Horrible word!

Oh, no, no, the word is fine! It's just the actual thing that is evil incarnate!

But tummy...ack, I can hardly bring myself to type it, because it means hearing it in my head! Nasty sounding word...

Re: Favourite word?

Amygdala. It's a part of the brain that is key in processing the memory of emotional reactions...and it's just darned fun to say. Met that word in a psychophysiology class I took a few years ago.

Come to think of it, "psychophysiology" is kind of fun to say, as well.

Re: Favourite word?

I'm not sure I have "a" particular word that is my favorite, though perhaps floccinaucinihilipification might come closest... as LMA says, it's just a fun word to say, it's a wonderful tongue-twister if you try to say it quickly, and the meaning makes the whole thing so ironic....

Others would be "numinous", "sublime", "eldritch", "fey"... ach, there are too many to put down....

Chocolate - it has to be chocolate! I mean - even saying it you have to have your mouth in the shape it would be if you were just about to pop a chocolate caramel into it. Hm - 'scuse me for a few moments!

Re: Favourite word?

Always liked periphery (the place I tend to inhabit). I also quite like precipice, temperance, phantasm and cantankerous.

And, though I've never been all that taken by it myself, I'm surprised no one's mentioned serendipity yet.

Re: Favourite word?

Autumn is my favourite word. Nothing exciting, not a new word but one that makes me feel good (most times!).

Re: Favourite word?

I once knew a guy that kept saying "antidisestablishmentarianism". So that's sorta stuck in my head now. Whether I want it or not.

I hate the word "fish", that sounds icky. As does the words "oil slick".
