Re: Favourite word?

When you're young love isn't all that important. I think it strikes when you get older. I'd say having fun and smiling is more important.

Re: Favourite word?

I like aurora, which comes from Latin.

Amore, especially in the Dantesque version "amor", sounds better than luv.

Hope no ferocious moderator will moderate me away, banishing me forever for using Latin, which accounts only for 60% of words in the Anglish database.

All right. Saxon words are yang.

Re: Favourite word?

One day a few years back I hit upon the word objurgate as I was browsing through my dictionary (you all do it!).

I'd rather be rebuked severely than objurgated, it sounds nasty.

(I like nasty).

Re: Favourite word?

Ah, yes, Harpo... I always like it when someone asks me what I'm doing, and I reply with, I'm doing things... and stuff.

I once knew a guy that kept saying "antidisestablishmentarianism". So that's sorta stuck in my head now. Whether I want it or not.
Actually, the word "anti" produces a double negative when combined with the word "dis". Thus, the word should be establishmentarianism. I'm full of useless facts, me!

Re: Favourite word?

I adore the word 'badger'. Don't know why, but it can reduce me to fits of laughter.

Also wobble, plop (as in water dropping, not baby poo), disenchantment and overjoyed.

One of the girls I go to church with says her all-time favourite word is parsnip!

And pleeeeeease stop it with the chocolate! I've got mini-bars in the kitchen, and no self control as it is!

Shennanigans... great word.

I'm also rather (over) partial to a certain swear word that begins an ends with 'T' (& rhymes with cat).

Totally agree, Ragnar; shenanigans is a terrific word. And when it comes to swearing/insults, I've always liked wazzock. Don't know why...
