| New route how about taking the doctor in a totally new direction, maybe at last a female doctor, an alien, a small child, a suffusion of yellow...the possibilities are endless. vote here and have your say: |

| Re: New route Bog standard male for me too I'm afraid, Coolhand's right, the Doctor is a male Timelord, there must have been female Timelords for them to be able to reproduce... unless they were asexual? Hmmm... Still, the Doctor wouldn't be the same for me if it was female, it would be wrong... As for the option "alien"... I thought he was? ![]() xx |

| Re: New route BSMHL: Male White Average build (not fat, not thin.. just right) 30 - 40 yrs Attractive -------------------- I'm not going to believe they would change the fomula at all. The dr is a MAN, must come fully equipped with a sonic screwdriver in his shorts - the girly doc would have issues with PMT and would need to get all googly over babies and such... got to love sexual steriotyping. Imagin the doc being played by a non white actor??? why not he's just as likely to morph that way but we know this is as likely as casting a black james bond - just not going to happen and there would be screams of the show pandering to "PC" concerns if it did - or worst still them writing whole shows around racial issues where white is bad, black is good and people need to see wach other as "people" No fatties in the doc role - hard to be an action hero if your overweight wobbling the tummy into those desperate situations puffing and panting - not to mention loosing all that sex appeal... An annorexic Doc would be just as bad as too fat Were not going to go to an "old" Doc as we loose the possible "love" angle in any episodes - nobody wants to see young girls swooning over old men, and the "grandfather" figure will never work in the current TV society - sure jacoby was a fantastic master for the 10 seconds he was the master before they morpghed him younger. Ugly people just dont get staring roles on TV - they can make up sidekick roles but lets face it when did you see an ugly person in the title role??? ---------- The beeb will just follow the same old model of middle of the roads lets not introduce contraversial entities into the show... Dont get me wrong, part of me would adroe to see an old black lady Dr just to spice things up - but I know its never going to happen as ultimately the Dr shouldnt be about bringing in contensious issues about gender or race or age - should just stay as it is a nice little sci fi program which in general makes you feel good to watch. so Bog standard male heros are here to stay wether you like it or not ![]() |

| Re: New route A Doctor Who Dalek??? I can't really pin my tail to any of the options given because I would like the programme makers to get the mythology right first. Time Lords are alien, so we don't really know what they're capable of or subject to. But we have been told they can only regenerate twelve times (Is that what RTD is banking on? Race through the last few so no one can follow him?). I think we're including McGann as one of the twelve. If the series is to survive beyond that, the number will have to refer to a certain type of regeneration and I would suggest the male humanoid form. This allows writers to devise story lines for a subsequent regeneration quota of twelve humanoid females. (I'm not mad, I tell you!) So far, we've seen the Doctor becoming progressively younger with each regeneration (if you suspend your disbelief just a touch, for the moment). If the twelve females grow older with each change, then the twelfth will be the female equivalent of Mr Hartnell, while the first will have been some young slip of a thing. Personally, I'm not too keen on this. I'd like the first female doctor to be a grandmother, one who grows younger over time and ends up as ... Susan, the Doctor's "grand-daughter"!! This way, we get to see the change-over aspect of the role (from Susan to infant-grandfather Hartnell) and the two distinct physical entities of the same person interacting. Plus, we get to see what happened to Susan after she left the Tardis. Did she cease to be a Time Lord? Did she become human? Perhaps I haven't thought about this enough. Then the next serieseses can be male again and cast according to the original sequence, essentially filling in the Hartnell, Troughton etc stories that weren't told first time around. Continuity problems? Hell, it'll be eighty years from now, nobody's going to remember what happened in series one by that time. Plus, by then perhaps Time Travel will be a proven reality and we can actually ask Hartnell to reprise the role! I'm Kent Brockman and this has been - My Two Cents. Thank you.
