Re: Dr Who on hold With RTD leaving as well at the end of season four, as well as DT taking a year out (at least) it looks like their good run may be coming to an end. Better to tail off at the top than keep going and do so at the bottom I guess.

Re: Dr Who on hold I hope it doesn't end when RTD leaves...and if Steven Moffat takes over like the article hinted, then the level might not drop; Moffat was the one who wrote The Empty Child and Blink and they were some fantastic episodes. Ooh, David Tennant as Hamlet! I love that play. I'd like to see that, if at all possible...hmmm.

Re: Dr Who on hold I also think it's probably right to take a breath of fresh air if both RTD and DT are out of it. I thought the huge media fanfare about the show, together with the mutliple spin-off series, was going to lead to a burn out very soon. This way it can continue in a more toned down way a lot longer.

Re: Dr Who on hold Hope not, Harpo, I didn't really like any of them. It's ok for the Doctor to be funny but for me the actor who plays him must always give the impression that he's taking it seriously. I don't think I'd get that from Rowan Atkinson - there would always be that undertone that he's taking the p***. And I didn't really rate the others, either.

Re: Dr Who on hold Richard E. Grant's been mentioned several times at previous change-overs. Would never have thought of Jim Broadbent: I think he'd be pretty good, as he can do quirky to a Tee, though way too old for the modern audience profile (in the BBC's eyes). Hugh Grant - don't make me laugh! Floppy haired rom-coms with Richard Curtis, fair enough. But Dr Who? Seriously?

Re: Dr Who on hold Wouldn't mind Steven Moffat taking over the head writer's role at all. DT leaving the series would be a bummer, though. Hope that's wrong - or I hope that they bring in John Hannah... ![]()

Re: Dr Who on hold Yeah, I would be distraught to see David Tennant leave...purely for...ah...non-shallow reasons... Heh, no, I think he is a very good doctor. But John Hannah would be amazing too. Come on John, don't let us down! Be the next doctor! ![]()

Re: Dr Who on hold We have a very old thread on possible actors from before Ecclestone was cast. All these people were mentioned in that, and more too. My vote then was for Bill Nighy and I think he would be even better today than I did then. http://www.chronicles-network.com/fo...xt-doctor.html

| Re: Dr Who on hold well we know we have 1 series to look forward too and its confirmed DT will be the doctor for the "3 specials" so no plot twists in the series to tranform the Doc - this therefor suggests it'll happen during the last of the three specials - call me a super idealist but I can but just hope they can redo the 5 doctors type story for the last one - but this time have just three doc's.. DT, CE AND Paul Magan - we could transition the doctor at the end of the 2nd special and use the third to get under the new doc's skin while the old docs get to be in on the fun - I know I armchair writer lol Both Actors and Writers need to move on - it would be terrible to sit with the same team for ten years as we know that it would just be a seady feed of the same story over and over again - fress ideas are th way forward as long as you have a good overviewer to maintain the serie quality - oh and most importantly its buget - as soon as it starts to loose viewers and they reduce its buget its over. As for the new doctor... well Richard E. Grant's done quite a lot of Dr audio adventures but I think I'd rather shoot myself than see him in the title role - he's just too... public schoolboy.
