Question Tell me I'm not Crazy!

So, I've been having a book craving for about 6 months now but I can't for the life of me remember what the title or the author of this book is. The brief synopsis that I seem to recall from when I read this book (or series of books?) as a child is:

The main character is some sort of master dancer. He has traveled to many worlds and learned all sorts of art forms from different alien races. One of the most famous dances he learned, or started to learn, was this beautiful dance from, I believe, a blue skinned people. They were known for their graceful movements but their planet is suddenly wiped out and as a result he is the last person to know any true parts of their dance.

Another scene that I recall is he performs a dance that involves dancing on wine glasses and ends with him kicking and smashing them at the end???

I'm really hoping for one of two things to happen with this.

1. I really would love to at least know that I'm not the only person who has read this book. At this point I'm beginning to think its a figment of my imagination.

2. If anyone has suggestions to the title or author I will love them for the rest of my life!

You're not crazy, but I am afraid that I do not know the book you mean. Perhaps one of the others will know.

I've googled some, but found none. Can you remember any of the following:
-how long ago you've read it (sixties or nineties does give a hint)
-any names?

The only book I can recall with dance as a major component is Star Dance by Spider and Lynn Robinson. I've not read it so I don't know if it is the one you are looking for.

ditto dwndrgn. I've got Star Dance without actually having read it as yet, but that was the one that immediately sprang to mind when I read the description

It isn't. Neither is "Fire Dancer" or "The dancers of Arun". In fact, I don't think I've read the book; I'm certain the 2wine glass" scene would have stayed with me. Sorry.

And who am I to judge whether you are crazy or not?

Re: Tell me I'm not Crazy!

Thanks guys! Nope, you're correct in Star Dancer not being the book I'm referring to. The character is male, tall and slender if I remember correctly. I also remember something about him being thrown into prison.

At anyrate, I may jst have to go and sit in my library and go through all the books. This is the problem with reading everything you get your hands on... you forget.

However, Star Dancer seems like a really neat book so I'll probably have to give that one a try!

Cheers,

Re: Tell me I'm not Crazy!

This could be entirely off but in Stardrift (1973) aka Nail Down the Stars, the main character is an actor/dancer/playwright who travels all over the galaxy. The story line loosely matches your description. I think the author is john morressy. I hope this helps.
