Wanted: Books for Woodsman

Attention All.

After early morning discussions with Woodsman this morning I have put out the call for books.....

Woody is busily making a chair out of unwanted books. Books that you have no use for, books that didn't live up to your expectations, books that you might have stuffed away in a dark dingy cupboard.

If Woody gets enough books he will be able to not only build a chair but also a lounge suite, coffee table and even an entertainment unit.

Please leave the name of your book and if you so desire the reason why you are leaving it behind, even suggestions on which piece of furniture you might like it to be used for.

On behalf of Woody I thank you......

Re: Wanted: Books for Woodsman

Okay, Cheers muchly Tanga, (drinks are for ever on me)

Well, the basic Idea was: because I never remember anything, if I made a chair out of books down in the quiet room, not only would I have somewhere to sit but I'd also always have something to read. So would any one else for that matter. .
However, slight technical hitches appear to abound.
1 the $&@~<$ books keep falling about
2 once I've built a chair, if I want a good book I have to burrow for it, which tends to kill said chair.
Well there are amny more to be found I'm sure!
So, suggestions please, but chuck in the odd must read to ensure there is some good reading when said furniture is not in use. Any books people really hate (WoT, anyone.... no? REALLY?) chuck this way.

Thanks in anticipation, Jez.

Re: Wanted: Books for Woodsman

Once I have finished reading the one I have now, your certainly welcome to it
! Put it at the bottom, for I am sure you won't want to read it either.

I do hope that Tanga's idea works and that you get to build a whole housefull of furniture to read!

Thanks very much . A whole housefull would be... alot I guess. perhaps I could start a furniture store if there was some demand though?

Is the book that terrible? Although it's good if I get it

Here are Pandora's Star and Judas Unchained, Peter F. Hamilton.

Do they have to be SF&F? Because you can have The Corrections by Jonathan Franzen. I had thrown it behind my headboard so I would stop trying to finish it, but it has somehow crawled out from under my bed. It needs to go.

Ok Woodsman
I will give you a good one or two for reading:

Silk Alessandro Barrico &
Fevre Dream George R R Martin

leave them near the top as I think they will be well read....

Something I was never able to finish, not sure of the author though. But I just couldn't get into it......

The Sword in Splendor, its a big solid one so make it part of the seat!

If you were building a toilet then I would send you Battlefield Earth.

Wait, I thought it was supposed to be unwanted books?

Speaking of which, I got given The DaVinci Code for christmas a few years ago and haven't got around to burning it yet - feel free to rip it up and use it for the cushion filling.

Re: Wanted: Books for Woodsman

Ok, thanks everyone whos turned up books so far.

Rane: It is mainly rubbish, unwanted books but the od good one e.g. for the arm of the chair which is easily available for reading atc, for anyone who wants a book. Da Vinci code? Think I've got one laying around as well so it should be a good sized cushiony bit! Could probably make an entire house out of discarded Wheel of time books.

Gully: Anything is appreciated! don't think I'll start on a toilet just yet though, and not sure if it would fit in the quiet room? perhaps we need a small additional closet?

Thanks Tanga, some good wanted and big volumes always useful I guess.

Flygin: anything goes, my dictionary is in the 'pile' somewhere although I really do need to use it a lot more than I do.

& HSF My bro had Dr Cylops once, but that is almost too ugly. I'll have to bury it in the seat somewhere I think.

thanks again all, keep them coming.

Re: Wanted: Books for Woodsman

Of course the challenge is building a bookshelf out of books, with any one available without collapsing the structure.
As regards cushions, if you put a book on my sister's window ledge overnight, it absorbs the condensation, swells up to three times its previous thickness and becomes all soft and spongy. (experimental proof on my copy of "1632")

And what am I donating? The entire series of Roberson shapechanger books, Piers Anthonies "Bio of a space tyrant", the Rivan Codex and - a reader's disgust "Laughter is the best medicine" hardcover omnibus edition (christmas present) even if it is right now a structural component in my bed.

Re: Wanted: Books for Woodsman

Here's a couple of Patricia McKillip's books... not very thick but will certainly help increase the height of one piece of furniture at least!

Re: Wanted: Books for Woodsman

Oh, I've had to leave the chair for a little bit I'm afraid my Plum wine required some urgent attention.

Despite the advise Chrispy I tried to do the booksheld construct and... You were right. I should have known. thanks for the cushion tip, I might have to borrow the windowsill, if at all possible? Leave Laughter where it is, I don't have the heart to destroy your bed!!
Cheers Rosemary every little counts so anything is well received.

I've decided to contribute A DK childrens encyclopedia for myself, which is bulky (16 vols) and interesting occaisionally. Just to add to the pile already in the quiet room. Keep them coming please people, Any book you've secretly hated or thought it was total @$#& come and have a moan and leave a book.
Cheers, Woody.

Re: Wanted: Books for Woodsman

Woody.
I was visiting my sister on the weekend, she is an accountant. No I didn't steal her text books, they are beyond boring.
However I was rumaging around and found her collection of Danielle Steele novels, trash if ever I saw it, so while she wasn't looking, I stole it. I mean really I am doing her a favour. They rot your brain.
So there's quite a few in the bag for you.
