10 Years on! Alright so I guess we all know that its ten years since Princess Di died in a car crash. I don't actually want to talk about that, but your welcome to if you want. I was thinking however gosh a lot has happen to me personally in ten years. I have seen my little boy grow into a young man, my feisty puppy into an old and less angry dog. I have swapped jobs, watch my dad die, watch my younger sister get married, got divorced, lived a happy carefree single existence for a few years to finally meet someone new, sell my old house, buy a new one, change cars, learn to live with rheumatiod arthritis ( one of the lows) watch one of my favorite all time books be turned into a series of three movie (Yes LOTR) and discover chrons. There's probably a lot more but its been busy, filled with highs and lows. But its always been interesting. How about you?

Re: 10 Years on! This is going to sound horrible, but I remember the night Princess Di died. My girlfriend and I had just had another Big Fight and I'd gone for a loooooong walk on the beach. When I'd got home, it was on the news. I don't think I felt a damned thing. I'd been emotionally emptied already, I suppose. 1998, The Big Separation. We'd been together eight years. Move out of house, back into bedsit land while she takes over the house with her new man. Redundancy from job seemed minor by comparison. 1999, Zombification year. Oh, and a new job. 2000, Light at the end of the tunnel. Move back into the house while she and her man emigrate. Bury myself in creative output - two symphonies and a bunch of songs. 2001 A (tentative) new girlfriend and my first film - kinda like the red sports car that single men of a certain age must have. Mum's been having mini-strokes, but medication and not smoking around her seems to be helping. 2002 My first (proper) album containing songs for both relationships. Redundancy from another job. 2003 Living in Sin and another New Job. Girlfriend's exams (Hist/Pol) 2004 Everyone needs cats, don't they? We get two. Songs for second album. 2005 Complete first novel. Learn to drive because public transport can no longer get me to my job. Well-paid misery at work. Girlfriend moves out. We still keep in touch. Buy my first car (€450) and drive illegally until I do my test in November. 2006 Dad seriously ill, but he's a survivor! No sale on first novel. Write second novel, notes for the third. Headaches - and I mean headaches! 2007 Feels like Zombification Part 2, but headaches responding to treatment. Actually been very busy with occasional filming, a bit of writing and chatting with Chrons buddies. Coming to terms with being 51. Damn it, just realised! I'm fifty-two in a couple of months! (gibbergibber, I'll never make it, gibbergibber)

Re: 10 Years on! It was the year I retired from music, & lived in domestic hermitage for the next several years > worked in a bread shop > went to China > suffered illness (a very bad year) > went to church for a year > became single and moved away to a traveller's site > turned 40, which I'd been looking forward to since I turned 30 > started playing music again > started growing my hair long > moved to London > met lots of new people & played some daft gigs > joined a new country & became a millionaire > reformed some old bands and starting taking over the world There's more to it than that, of course.

Re: 10 Years on! Was the first time I ever had to go down and tell the foreman to stop the press. Not something I'd care to repeat (I did for 9/11) or something I can ever forget. In that time I went abroad to work, was deliriously happy, got a black cat named Puk Luk, cat is poisoned, my father has a bypass and recovers very well, came back to marry, work in an International School, spent two years trying to fit a mould, went back to being editor at a newspaper, failed to fit in mould, got divorced, moved all my things into a warehouse and move myself into my parents' house again, dated someone across the world, started going to science fiction & fantasy cons again, was amazingly happy, the relationship does not work out, buy my own home, discover Chronicles, move newspapers, move into new home books and all and finally .... am catted again. ![]()

Re: 10 Years on! Well Ten years Hmmm. Lost a long term girlfriend, dated a bit then met my wonderful wife 7 years ago. I got my first long term job and have been here almost ten years. promoted a few times made a fair few friends lost a few, but quite frankly they were worth losing. Got some pets and said goodbye to a fair few. wandered around in circles a bit and sat down, I now reside in the corner gibbering to myself.

Re: 10 Years on! Hmmm... a lot has happened in ten years, some of which I won't mention here. Well, let's see, I was still at school ten years ago... I lost my nan, I discovered a liking for BMWs, I passed all my exams, I found out why you shouldn't trust some people, I had my first job, I moved county, I discovered a love of writing, I watched my granddad die, my sister was ill for a time, my sister had a child, and lately I've realised just how wonderful some people are (and yes, that's since I've joined this place).

Re: 10 Years on! I got a Bachelor's degree, went to work right after that in my chosen career field, got knocked out of it due to no fault of my own and helplessly watched my debt explode while I tried to get empoyed again, got back to working in my intended profession again for a while, voluntarily left that job, relocated (again) with the intention of trying to get back in my original career field again, decided that I didn't want to go back after all, picked a new and completely unrelated profession to start a new career in, and started going back to college for that.

Re: 10 Years on! Ben, that sounds horrid! ![]() I'm sorry your life has consisted of nothing but work. Perhaps you should have took more liberties and gone out with the lass, assuming it was a lass, that is. I've known companies like that. You work hard but you'll always just be a number to them, never a person.

Re: 10 Years on! When Diana died I was depressed already from being in a bad relationship, so it barely registered. Left my ex-bf, graduated from business school, worked odd jobs on and off, spent 8 years essentially single with a couple friendships with benefits. Became active on several websites, decided to change careers, found the man I want to spend the rest of my life with...
