What is it about Rand al'Thor?

I'm reading through the books right now, i'm just thinking "What the hell is it about Rand?" Concerning women that is. Every woman likes him. Princesses want him, warrior-maidens desire him, tavern girls who can tell the future think they need him, hell farmgirls think he's hot. How can so many women be all attracted to one guy? Even a living incarnation of evil (Lanfear) wouldn't mind a night with Rand. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Moiraine has had a few 'naughty' dreams about Rand every once and while (as he writes this, the author has a disturbing image of Lan sitting by a sleeping Moiraine, eyes wide in surprise, as the Aes Sedai moans Rand's name in her sleep) I wouldn't be surprised if Moiraine and Siuan giggled about the Dragon Reborn's body behind closed doors either. Heck, Nynaeve sneaking a peek of shirtless Rand working on his sword forms would surprise me at this point.

So please, answer me this, what the HELL is about Rand al'Thor, stubborn farmboy/Dragon Reborn, that makes him so desirable to women?

Re: What is it about Rand al'Thor?

Absolutely nothing.

It is part of a prophetic/elaborate scheme to keep the shippers happy. As you may recall Egwene fell out of [spoiler]sensored/wordwillnotlovebeshownhere/sensored[/spoiler} with Rand. So he is not some irresistible God/man the rest of us should be jealous of. His three lovers all seemed to loose total control of their feelings around them, which may or may not have something to do with Rand being so strongly Ta'veren.

For some reason the pattern finds this beneficial. And Lanfear isn't necessarily in love with Rand so much as she is LTT's power. That, I think, is part of the pattern, too...and also stuck in there to get shippers to beg for more...

Re: What is it about Rand al'Thor?

Now I thought that being Ta'veren made your part of the Pattern, or even the entire Pattern, weave around you. Not make every woman that's ever laid eyes on you (excluding things like mother of course) want to screw you silly. Methinks Jordan should know this getting a little ridiculous, you don't NEED to appease the shippers after all. RJ would save face with me if the last book including NO shipping crap whatsoever. But of course, that probably won't happen in this confusing mess of a smorgasbord that is the Wheel of Time.

Heh, I just had this image of Rand al'Thor running down a Caemlyn street, pursued by a horde of sex-crazed woman ala Austin Powers.

The secret is in there, I promise.

But really, the characters that are in love with Rand are very important to the outcome of the whole war. As in if one of them were gone, he could loose the whole sha-bang, type important. (or at least they are supposed to be.) There for it may have everything to do with the pattern.

Lol! For some reason, I hadn't read this until now!

As for the original question, I have no idea.

Re: What is it about Rand al'Thor?

Rand is odd, that is obvious. He looks good, lots of men do, but he's different, and lots of people find different things intriguing. He looks like an Aielman, he's tall, well built, oh and the entire world revolves around him.

I think women like Rand also because he's so innocent at first, he acts so sweet, he'd do anything to help anyone who needed it because he's just that nice of a guy, and if you tack that onto looks and world revolving, I think he's got it made. I mean, hell, Mat does about as good later on, having affairs with women who normally wouldn't do that kind of thing with a commoner.

Now when rand gets power, the ladies want him for power, the girls want him cause he's still freakin hot. I doubt Moiraine ever thought of him sexually cause I doubt she thought of ANYONE sexually. Though I do recall a remark from Leane, and wasn't there one from Siuan?

It could also be that Rand is reincarnate of Brad Pitt

I hadn't thought of that, Lyanna. Mind you, Rand was never one of my favourite characters in the first place. This may be one of the biggest unsolved mysteries of the WoT.

I do not remember wear in the series but Moraine does hint that she considered relations with the boys if she thought it would tie them to her but when she goes into the terangrel in Tear they tell her it would lead to dissaster.

Re: What is it about Rand al'Thor?

I always found Rand a bit boring. I dont know why, its been about a year or so since I last read the books so everything isnt quite so clear. Although I have to say in last book he actually seemed to get a bit more personality and I did enjoy him a bit more.

Re: What is it about Rand al'Thor?

I ended up finding all the characters dead boring after the end of the third book. One of the reasons I don't really like Wheel of Time. That's my whinge of the day.
