I haven't read any of these yet. I should really be supporting this Aussie author having met him before. I liked his Abhorsen trilogy.

Re: Garth Nix

i really enjoy garth nix as a writer and ive read all of his works soo far except for shades children. i loved the old kingdom series, and ive just picked up the keys to the kingdom which ive only found to be 'good' soo far. however the works by him that i have enjoyed the most, is the seven towers series. if you like nix and are looking for something good, try that, i wish the towers series had gotten a little more attention than the keys.

Re: Garth Nix

I only got the read the first of the Seven Towers series, and I have to say the same goes for my about the Keys to the Kingdom. The only reason I really want to finish them is because I loved how it was set up to last the week. I think if you only liked the first one and wanted to continue that borrowing from the library might be a good option.

Re: Garth Nix

the Sabriel triology knocks socks off the rest.
Lirael and Abhosen are my tops - disrepuatble dog - what a charcter.

Re: Garth Nix

I really like the Sabriel trilogy. I didn't really get into Keys of the Kingdom, and the library only had a few books of some other series by him, i forget what it was called.

Re: Garth Nix

I must admit I'd not heard of the author.

Reading through the thread it makes me think I'll go to my library or local bookstore and find an example

Any suggestions which one?

Re: Garth Nix

If you can, start with Sabriel, then move onto Lirael and then Abhorsen. That's his Old Kingdom Trilogy, and it's brilliant! Quite dark in parts, but a fantastic bit of fantasy.

If you're looking more for his lighter books, then start with the Keys to the Kingdom series and the first book - Mister Monday.

Personally, I'd start with Sabriel.

Re: Garth Nix

I'm with some others here, his Sabriel trilogy is easily his best work and well worth a read.

Re: Garth Nix

Yeah, I started Keys to the Kingdom, but I had to wait for a couple of books to come out and I have a bad memory for plot lines. I couldn't be bothered reading them all again, so they're on my 'to read one day' list.

Sabriel is definitely my favourite series by him, the Seventh Tower isn't bad, but I only read a couple of them as well.
