Women lived in a walled city and men lived in the forest

Began this book on a cruise about 15 years ago. Women lived in a beautiful walled city filled with art, music, all things cultured. The men roamed the forest as savages with little radio receivers attached to their heads. When one of the women wanted sex she'd set off a little buzzer and one of the men would enter a little room in the wall designated for that purpose. A male child would be kept until age seven and then sent to the forest. I know it sounds weird but it was actually very interesting. I got to the point where one of the women fell in love with a man and another women had a male child she couldn't give up. And then my cruise ship landed! And I had to return the book. Can anybody please help me with this? Thanks.

I have no idea what book you are talking about, but holy hekc that sounds like an awesome way to live. Except for the giving up the kids at 7 part, I can't go without my kids for a week without being all "waaaaaaaaaaaa" about it. I'm addicted to my children.

mrich77 can't help you I am sorry but like dusty it sounds cool. Yes I love my son to much to let him go. Especially at seven, they are wonderful at that age.
Hopefully someone will know the title of this book and we can all find a copy!

Just what I was going to suggest, except for the radio receivers. Gate had a festival at various times, IIRC, where the men and women mingled. However, civilized men, (and there were a few) were allowed to live in the city.

Thanks. It certainly sounds like it. It's been a long time and I'm a little fuzzy on all the details, but I'll check it out.
