Eulogy

"Here lies a woman who's life, we should celebrate
A woman, that always went out of her way to do good for others
The good she did in life, on this there is no reason for debate
So don't be sad about her passing, good sisters and brothers.

Death is just another facet of life, one which we don't yet fully understand
No one has ever returned from death's vast unknown
We have no definitive information, about death and her land
We pray, family is there to guide us through mankind's biggest unknown.

We have never been there, but we all hope for a candle to light our way
Through the darkness of death and it's unknown domain
Hopefully, we are talking of a place of leisure, free of all worry, where we will be happy and gay
Is death another dimension, or some kind of unknown plane?

A place, no one ever needs to fear, a place where one will always smile
A place, we all believe, that is beyond heart ache and pain
A wonderful place in which, even without our loved ones, we would wish to stay for a while
Knowing in the future, they will join us, giving us everything to gain.

So all of you here, be happy and don't feel death's sting and you cry
This woman is finally released from this old world full of heart ache and woe
So everyone remember, you shall follow suit, when you leave this old world and die
Take solace, in the fact, in such a place after death, you will go."

In the coffin, the lid is closed, darkness all around
I'm still here, as I here the muffled sounds of someone as they speak and talk
I have to let someone know I am not dead, I must make some kind of sound
Then I realize, the top of this thing I can open, so this I do, sitting straight up, people start to run, as they look at me and gawk.

Re: Eulogy

Clever little piece. It could use some tweaking here and there, and a few grammatical corrections, but a nice blend of horror and humor. My main objection would be verisimilitude... unless we're dealing with a genuine corpse, this doesn't take into account the very basic fact of embalming procedures... a something so pervasive that it takes away somewhat from an enjoyment of the piece, unfortunately. If you could somehow suggestively hint at a way around that difficulty, I think it would actually make the piece work much better....
