Stephen King vandalising books!

Or so it seemed at first...

BBC NEWS | Entertainment | Author King 'mistaken for vandal'

I thought I'd post this because it's quite amusing. Imagine working at that shop, confronting the guy, and finding out it's Stephen himself! Or worse, not realising and escorting him off the premises!

I would've given my right leg (who needs a right leg, really?) to have been at that shop when he was in there...

And as for this:

Quote:
Ms Ellis added that it was common for authors to visit the shop, check if their books are on the shelves and sign some copies.
I wonder how many shops allow that? And how many shops Stephen has done it in? Man, I really need to start checking inside of King books more often...

I think as the memory faded and you grew to miss your leg, you might regret the trade.

Re: Stephen King vandalising books!

Nev-ah! Especially if I managed to bag myself one of those books while he was signing it. *Sighs* And maybe exchanged a bit of casual conversation with the King.

*Snorts* Yeah, casual conversation.

Stephen: "Oh, hi, there!"
Me: *Gasp* *Wheeze* Ohmygod! *Gasp* You're, like...*wheeze* Stephen King! *THUD* *Passes out from excitement*

But the most interesting question is, what on Earth was he doing in the Alice? There's nothing there. I'm almost expecting a follow-up story tomorrow saying 'King's still in Maine, that bloke really was a vandal!'

Hoopy I don't think you some much passed out but rather lost balance because you had given away your right leg, then fell and knocked yourself out.........
Still I wonder how many people will now look at the front of their new proposed Stephen King purchase just to see if they can find a signed one?

Reading the article made me remember a question I meant to pose here. Is Lisey's Story as good as the blurbs on the back suggest? I'm reading George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire at the moment but after that I'm thinking of checking out the book.

Re: Stephen King vandalising books!

Right...OK...here we go...

Lisey's Story certainly is a good book (but hell, I'm going to say that really, aren't I?) It's slower moving than the others, it wasn't until after the first fifty pages or so that I warmed to it completely, but after that I loved it. It's unlike the other King books, I think. The supernatural element to it isn't the main plot of the story, as such (although it's still eerie -- and there's also the added bonus of a human-made horror, and he really is evil ) The focus is more on Lisey's coping in the wake of her husband's death and reflection on their life together. And also the darker side to their marriage, that Lisey is having to face in the present day, and by herself. It's very emotional, with lots of back tracking, even going over some events more than once. I think you should go for it, it's a good read.

Oh wow, so it does have a supernatural element to it? I thought it was a straight up story about a widow coping with her husband's death.

I'm very interested. As soon as I finished A Storm of Swords (which will be a bit as I haven't finished A Clash of Kings yet) I'll check it out.

Re: Stephen King vandalising books!

Oh, yes definitely a supernatural element. But as I said, it's more of a side line, it's not like a thing attacking the protagonist like in other books, but just something in the background, always there and threatening...well, you'll see what I mean anyway! Enjoy!

Re: Stephen King vandalising books!

The Supernatural stuff in Lisey's was more than a sideplot, i felt. Maybe not the main plot, but it certainly felt rather large and important. At least from my reading. I liked the book a lot.

I wonder why he didn't tell the clerk what he was doing? Maybe he wanted them to find it later and be like "what???"

Pretty cool though. I wish I'd been there.

Re: Stephen King vandalising books!

Yeah, it's hard to describe, side plot was about the only thing I could think of! It's like Boo'ya Moon is always there, throughout the narrative, a background threat. But no, not quite the main plot.

Re: Stephen King vandalising books!

You wouldn't want to be the guy who escorts Stephen King off the premises. Years ago, King was hit by a guy in a car and sustained injuries (which he recovered from, obviously). That guy, who was mostly fine, ended up dying later, ironically on King's birthday.

So, do you still want to tick off King by throwing him out of your store? :-/

The man who hit King with the van died on his birthday? For real? Or is this a hearsay thing. I gotta look this up. That is genuinly spooky. Maybe Roland knocked the guy off for Stephen.
