Cool Discovered a new author that has a promising future

I just got done reading AREON AND NOTHINGNESS, by Cole Lemme and wow did it keep my attention that whole time I read it. I reccommend it and you can get it used or cheap tons of places. The end throws you through a loops and leaves you asking for more. Other than grammatical errors this book is in my top ten. I can't wait till he writes something else. It is an easy read and you could probably finish it in a day if you are a fast reader like me. Let me know if you have read it and what you think of it. Also let me know if you know of any places I should leak this guy to because he is way under the radar and shouldn't be.

Re: Discovered a new author that has a promising future

I'm pretty sure lake_kreul is the author, Connavar, and his post is self-promotional spam.

I could be wrong, but it has all the earmarks.

Yes, otherwise it would be one strange first post.

Re: Discovered a new author that has a promising future

I seem to agree.
The book itself has been published by TATE publishing. Who feature the following beliefs: "the son the father and the holy spirit" and include God Bless in their marketing strategies.
Furthermore, you can't take anyone serious, who states that his book features bad grammar, lol!

$18,99 for a paperback, sure...

My heart goes out for those who have become victim of a vanity publisher, but there are borders. I feel that trying to make other people cough up for your mistake is just sick. It's like dealing, to get money for drugs.

Thumbs up Re: Discovered a new author that has a promising future

I will be honest with you guys, I did not write it but a kid from my college wrote it.

The book is about element magic, and deciding to end the world or defy God and save it. Here is the back of the book. Does one have the right to commit to evil means for a virtuous end? Areon is faced with many challenges as he sets out on his adventure with a beautiful young woman, Reiquem. Areon, upon visiting the Shadow Temple, finds the gem that holds the very essence of shadow is missing. In order to save the universe from imbalance and a possible future of Nothingness, he must make a decision to defy God, battle the Nine Orders of Angels, and retrieve the gemstones. A fast-paced adventure of fantasy threaded with surprising twists, Areon and Nothingness raises philosophical questions that will keep readers thinking and searching for an answer.

I know it sounds like I am promoting it, but it is just one of those that is under the radar cause the editor didn't fix things and pretty much screwed him over. I am just looking for more people that have read it, or more people that could read it and post what they think. And if cost is a problem or something you are thinking that I am trying to sell as many as I can, I get no money for what sells and if you give me your address I will send you the one I bought.

Re: Discovered a new author that has a promising future

Lake cruel, what about promoting the book at your college. I'm sure you'll find an audience there. If the book is really that good, these people will persuade their friends to buy it. You also might want to consider just reprinting the book, since the publisher charges enormously high prices for the paperback. Even at lulu, which isn't cheap, you're able to sell your novels for less than $10. (including profits)

I'm sorry, but I fear online promotion for a book that costs more than twice the average, is a lost cause, even if the book is great. I would say: try to get rid of the books you have by selling them at your college, and then if they are really good, reprint the book at a non-religious editor if there's more demand.

Lol, you are trying to promote it, it's not a crime, but if that was your sole purpose for joining this forum, you haven't read the forum guidelines.

Re: Discovered a new author that has a promising future

problem is, is that this is south dakota, not a lot of people to tell it to. I dont have any copies I just have the one I bought. I am just trying to find more people that have read it. You got to start somewhere....... But I just got back from AZ so I haven't really been at the college for a year now. Let me know if you know anyone that has read it.

Re: Discovered a new author that has a promising future

For that matter, there's an area on here where promotions are allowed, as long as you follow guidelines. Check with the admin, and see if it's approved.

If you're attempting to help someone because you feel they deserve a chance, kudos for your intentions; I would just suggest asking some advice from one of the moderators or administrators on a site first, so that your efforts are within bounds and prove more effective.

However, as Scalem says, also try promoting it at your college (if permissible), or just getting the word out via a blog or through people you may chat with on the 'net.....

Re: Discovered a new author that has a promising future

In all fairness to the author, scalem, it looks like the book is the size of a smallish trade paperback. And at 300+ pages, it would cost rather more than $10US to print it up a lulu, unless the author can afford to buy in bulk. Then you add in the retail mark-up, so that even with a small royalty for the author the price would be getting up there. Plus, lulu really gouges you on the shipping. I know, because I've looked into some of this for reprinting my backlist.

But so far as promotion is concerned, spamming forums is not the way to go, whether it's the author himself or just a friend. As you, scalem, undoubtedly know -- but our new member does not -- there are various ways that spammers invariably give themselves away.

If the author wants reviews, he should send out review copies to reviewers around the net. There are a number of sites that are receptive to small press and self-published titles.

But no one should publish their book until and unless they have polished up their grammar skills. Otherwise, it shows a disrespect for the language, the reader, and the writing process in general. Not to mention that it's a fairly reliable sign that the writing is going to be sloppy in other ways.

My advice to the author would be to write the whole thing off as a learning experience, and to go about the whole thing in a more professional manner next time.

Re: Discovered a new author that has a promising future

Sorry Teresa, might have been mistaken on lulu, but I'm sure there are cheaper ones out there (but yeah the shipping is hard to calculate).

1: They post a thread as first post
2: They come up with something we've never heard off (which is the best), or something we know really well (like blue pills and cheap rolexes)
3: They, I'm not going to waste my time on this

two others who have read itunless one of them is you that is of course. Then it's one.

I fear that the book has sold close to no copies and that maybe fewer people have read it all the way.

As said by Teresa, the dude will have to move on and maybe he can have a decent go at it at some point later in his life with this book.

Re: Discovered a new author that has a promising future

Be sure to post an intro in the introduction section and then go and find some other threads to post in.

I'm sure you'll find someone who'll read the book if you mention they can get it for free (given they send it back or send it on to someone else). (I have to decline myself though)

if you don't find anyone, try bookcrossing

Re: Discovered a new author that has a promising future

lake_kreul: I appreciate your energy and commitment to helping get the word out about your friend's book. Your instinct to use the internet as a tool of communication is good; but as you can tell by the response--spamming is usually not tolerated on community forums.

A couple things you CAN do that are positive. Find some eZines that either take submitted reviews of books (provided you can articulate a sharp, positive review). The Sword Review (Double-edge Publishing) welcomes Christian or cross-over novel reviews. Find people with professional blogs that do well written reviews of genre novels and tell your friend to send them a copy. Find other eZines that will do book reviews. I'm guessing Tate uses POD technology, so before you do any of this, follow Teresa's advice and tell your friend to step back, have the book professionally copy-edited, and re-release the book as perfect as perfect can be.
