Favorite Musical piece in Star Wars..

It seems like a life time ago, but when Star Wars first came out, all I had to enjoy the movie outside the theatre, besides the toys and books, was the soundtrack. Films were not released so quickly for home viewing like they are today. I suppose that is one of the biggest reasons I love these movies so much is the music. This is a difficult one for me to decide even for myself, but I would have to pick the hauntingly beautiful theme for Princess Leia as one of my all time favorites from John Williams. What's yours?

This is almost an impossible question! I'm bad at making decisions. I might have to go with the asteroid field chase in TESB. It was so....lofty, did wonders for the suspense and was synchronized with many TIE explosions to pipe in quick high notes.

But John Williams is always great. I could just as easily pick any other piece.

The music in the original trilogy mainly is just awesome. I couldn't pick a favourite part.

Re: Favorite Musical piece in Star Wars..

Yeah, I think I picked kind of a tough one here. I can listen to all six soundtracks and music from his other countless scores and enjoy every piece in it's own right. The theme 'Across the Stars', Anakins and Padmes is also one of my favorites that stand out. The forest battle and rebel throne room ceremony for something a little more upbeat and-and- I think I'm starting to figure out why there aren't many responses to this, they're all superb!

I do believe you're right. "Lando's Palace" was superb, "Clash of the Lightsabers" "I am the Senate!" "Yoda's them"...

Re: Favorite Musical piece in Star Wars..

It's called The Victory Celebration Song. It was one of the things that changed in the special edition releases and to most it was a welcome one. While the original has an ewok chorus chirpping away during the party at the end there, with the lengthened scenes of the celebrations on other planets in the SE's, a change in song and a welcome change in tempo has a much better feel to it. I found this while searching for the name of the song, check this out:

I don't like how it has the celebration going on in clearly imperial worlds *cough* Coruscaunt *cough*

Because it would have been Imperial supporters, not Alliance supporters. And the news of the Emperor's death was meant to take many days, if not years to get around.

Re: Favorite Musical piece in Star Wars..

Well I can see your point, but I would suggest that after twenty five years or so, the Empire's antics were probably wearing thin on most if not all star systems and planets, including the capital. If there were not rebel spies on Coruscant itself, there were most likely a lot of silent rebel sympathizers there waiting for the outcome of this rebellion. With the technology in their universe, media and telecommunications capability, that kind of information might not take as long as you might think to spread around. With the head of the snake cut off (Ackbar wouldn't keep it a secret), I'm sure too chaos ran supreme thoughout the Imperial forces remaining as to what they are going to do now to regroup and such, and that takes time to pick up any pieces left. A mob is a hard thing to control, celebrating or rioting (sometimes they're one in the same) and on a planetary or galactic scale, there weren't enough forces per capita to squander this victory dance. Well, that's my view anyway...

Re: Favorite Musical piece in Star Wars..

Ahem - the music?

Can anybody say that they can listen to the 20th Century Fox music (with the searchlights!) without listening for that crashing TAH -tah-tah-tah Star Wars fanfare and overture? To me, that's one of the best things JW ever wrote.

I'm rather keen on the theme tune myself, too. The Victory Celebration is another favorite.
